We were in Harrogate for the weekend visiting friends and stayed in an Executive King Room which had a huge and very comfortable bed, small bathroom but a great shower with excellent water pressure. The room could definitely benefit from a larger TV as the one in the room, whilst relatively modern, was ridiculously small. We had access to the Club Lounge which was an added bonus we weren't expecting. You could get complimentary wine and bottled beers with canapés between 5pm and 8pm and a continental breakfast available each morning. The hotel is so convenient being an easy 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Harrogate and the parking under the hotel was so easy, albeit some of the spaces are very small and tricky to get in and out of. We did find that some of the maintenance staff we encountered tried to commandeer the lifts though. After check in we were in the lift on our own when a maintenance man entered the lift without asking and went up just one floor. There is obviously no room to be socially distant in a lift so this was the only negative in an otherwise good stay.

We stated at the Crowne Plaza while attending an event at the Conference Centre. It's the perfect location for the conference Centre, just a short walk away. Car parking under the hotel was included in our package (I'm sure we paid for it, but it was provided as part of the total price). The room was excellent, decent size, excellent bed, good shower (no bath, other rooms may have both). Breakfast was outstanding, good selection of high quality items. There was a queue on Saturday morning, but at a busy time, and like everyone else at the moment I guess they are short of staff. All the staff we came across were (very) friendly and helpful.

Crowne Plaza Harrogate, 4* an IHG hotel Stayed for 4 nights as part of a Yorkshire By Steam, Rail Discoveries Holiday. Arrived from rail station by taxi, greeted by Tour Manager and directed to Check In. John Hamill our tour manager had an excellent relationship with Crowne Plaza management that enhanced our holiday. Check in by Nat process was satisfactory, not inspired Room 406 credit card deposit taken to cover card purchase system, promised a refund if underspent. Went to my room on 4th floor by lift. Key system worked first time, good when pushing case, holding walking stick etc it helps that door opens easily. Room, lay out good for me. Big comfy bed that was warm at night. Fair sized cabinets either side of bed with 13-amp socket plugs for my sleep apnoea machine. Wardrobe had space but glad I brought my own coat hangers only 4 provided. Safe in wardrobe standard touch number, big enough for cameras etc. Bathroom satisfactory glad there were some grab bars to help getting in and out of bath for shower. I was awaiting a replacement knee operation and was able to use shower over bath, pleased I could hold shower head and flex. For those with only slightly more challenging mobility bath would be too high. Should a 4* hotel have walk in showers? Loo flushed without problems. There was a tea / coffee tray with kettle tucked away almost out of sight. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets provided. Seems I was unlucky on biscuits and chocolate bars that fellow guest had a plenty on higher floors. Good desk / writing area by flat screen T.V. that worked View from window, side of Harrogate Convention Centre. Springs Restaurant Breakfasts Buffet Style Included in our package each morning. When one arrives early and walks with a stick fetching drinks orange juice or coffee is challenging, same for cereals. Coffee from a bean to mug machine fair quality. Cooked breakfast plenty of choices and display area frequently topped up. Toast machine is as challenging as any encountered in third world. Again white and brown bread tubs for marmalade. Quality of food and choices fair for a chain hotel. Given number of staff who seemed to compete to remove dirty dishes, perhaps a sign of the times that no breakfast staff member offered to carry Dariusdave’s food or drinks to his table. Porridge is available to order. Evening Meals 3 included on holiday package for 4 nights. Content: - Starter , Main & Pudding. Dariusdave is used to English coach / group holiday foibles and Crowne Plaza has its own. First night best described as adequate not exciting. Second night had to send food back to kitchen as cold. Worse still 4* hotel had no Red Wine available for restaurant. Given a 250 glass was c£8.50 amazed Manager hadn’t sent to Aldi or Tesco for emergency supplies but IHG Chain no doubt initiatives not allowed in corporate rule book. Last night the Chief pulled out all the stops served an enjoyable meal, came and talked to us. No doubt hoping, we would go home saying how wonderful every night had been. Dariusdave hails from Swindon, remembers when Honda factory built bringing “just in time management theory”. Honda has shut factory and their JIT theory has limited relevance in Brexit Britain. When wine and other supplies are subject to the whims of French Customs or shortage of lorry drivers it is time to re-invent the store cupboard. A 4* hotel without red wine beggar’s belief but may be a pointer to modern Britain. Bar Friendly helpful bar staff, able to mix cocktails and serve a decent Hendrick’s gin with tonic. Have stayed in better IHG Hotels, it seems to me Crowne Plaza Harrogate fails to reach its true potential and needs to pull up its socks.

Recently stayed 3 nights at this hotel. First impressions were good as public areas are well presented. We were able to check in around an hour earlier than the 3pm check in but were limited as to what rooms were available, as told by the receptionist. We were given a room on the 5th floor. The room was ok, big bed, limited draw space and the bathroom was basic. I have stayed in a few Crown Plazas in the past and the rooms were bigger. The reason for the score I have given was mainly due to the breakfast service on the Sunday morning. We got to the restaurant around 9am and it was very busy. However lots of free tables which had not been cleared. The manager told us there was a wait for tables, not really a problem. We were sat a few minutes later and asked what hot drinks we wanted. We ordered and then went to the buffet expecting the drinks to be there on our return. Sadly this was not the case. We asked twice where the drinks were and were told there was a delay by the restaurant manager. We had actually finished our breakfast about 25 mins later but still no drinks. We asked the waiter that seemed to be serving the drinks and he stated there was a delay but thankfully he bought them a few minutes later. We actually observed others repeatedly asking but not getting drinks. One couple gave up and left after eating their food. The restaurant manager didn’t seem to be bothered and we found it quite comical that he was seating people and taking their hot drink orders whilst a lot of others he had done the same for were left waiting. In fact the couple that gave up and left, he shouted after them “ don’t you want coffee” the lady politely asked him to offer it to others as they weren’t prepared to wait any longer. Thankfully the following morning there was not a problem but the hotel was much quieter. We stayed 3 nights and the price paid meant that we should have had better service.
