Me and my partner stayed for one night, as a mid way break on a longer journey. I emailed a week ahead and made a very special request that I wasn’t sure would be accommodated, Richard Hindley went out of his way and totally amazed me and my partner on arrival to the room. Couldn’t have asked for more :-) thank you so, so much.

Booked as part of an event night we stayed here to attend the Simply soul night. Check in was quick and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was far from extravagant but visually it was acceptable however over the course of a few hours we noticed let’s just say a few ‘imperfections’. The cupboard door under the television didn’t close as it wasn’t lined up properly and the fridge that it housed was warm. The bar staff however were very helpful and provided us with a bucket and ice. There was a free safe in the room however we were unable to use it as it was locked on open….we did mention this to reception but it was a fix that would take place once we’d left so has to carry everything round with us during the evening and even on our return we had to keep an eye on our valuables as the room door didn’t lock. The bathroom was modern and abundant with toiletries but it was very small and the bath panel was dangerous as it had numerous screws sticking out at the top and foot level which I caught my foot on more than one occasion. Noted as well there was no hand towel. It wasn’t all doom and gloom though, the bed was very comfortable the black out curtains were just that and we had a great sleep if only for a few hours after the SS event. Breakfast too was very good even for myself as a vegetarian although the beans were stone cold. Another thing to note if you do have any mobility issues I’m not sure there is a lift as I saw a group of elderly folk with walkers trying their best to use the stairs…..I certainly didn’t see a lift at all during my stay. Although we didn’t use either the gym and swimming pool looked great and were available to use at no extra cost. We had a great night at the simply soul event but trying to get a drink from the two bars was ridiculous and they really needed more staff on. Fortunately we had our own drinks in our room. Had we not I’d have been pretty miffed! The location of the hotel itself was very handy for the motorway and if you wanted to venture out there are a number of pubs close by. Overall I’d score 7/10.

I think I must be in a different hotel, looking at some of the reviews on here. We came on a National Holidays coach trip. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room’s ok had better but also had a lot worse. The evening meal was atrocious. We all had to arrive at the same time, the soup was served at the tables, it wasn’t bad, hot and tasty, but a very small portion, with a small roll and margarine (yuk). When it came to the main course, we all had to queue, and the food was served by the waitresses, it was terrible, small and I mean very small portions of cottage pie, chicken curry with rice, or some kind of pasta dish, all with added frozen peas and frozen sliced fried potatoes if requested. About two thirds of the way down the queue, the cottage pie ran out!!! Leaving only curry or pasta and not a lot of that, so even smaller servings, and not everyone’s choice. The deserts came ready plated, apple pie and cream, cheesecake or gateau, even though I’m not really a dessert person it was the only part of the meal I can truly say I enjoyed.

This was booked as an overnight stop due to long journey. Staff were exceptionally friendly. Check in was straight forward. Rooms very clean & comfortable. Tea/coffee making facilities along with vending machines. Had dinner & breakfast there. Food was lovely & again staff was extremely friendly & polite. Parking was on site. I would have liked to see waiting staff serving food to be wearing face masks but it is not mandatory but I feel in light on the pandemic it’s common sense but as coming from Scotland ours is still mandatory and that’s what we are used too but it’s not a bad reflection on this hotel. I would definitely use & recommended again as we had a lovely overnight stay.

Outstanding value. Probably the best budget hotel we have stayed in. Originally planned a one night stay but we were so impressed that we stayed another night. Very friendly staff, very clean rooms, a great breakfast included and nice bar and restaurant. The whole reception /bar / restaurant is very bright and cheerful. We will be back.
