If someone asked me to describe the perfect and typical English B&B, I'd probably just describe the Shakespeare. We stayed there for four weeks in August/September 2014 and enjoyed our comfortable and cosy room, the fully equipped kitchen and the overall atmosphere very much. Our room and the common areas were always clean and our room was very quiet. Sally...

I highly recommend the Shakespeare for both short term and long term stays. I stayed here for ten days whilst I looked for an apartment in Lancaster, and I couldn't have had a better welcome to the UK! The situation is convenient, being close to the bus station and to the town centre, the rooms are clean and cosy, and...

I stayed here for one night in the summer as I came up to Lancaster for a friend's wedding. I had explained this in an email, and when I got there the proprietor said she'd put me in the larger room they had available so I'd have enough room to twirl around in my dress and get ready! I was...

My aunt and I stayed for one night on our way from Scotland to Holyhead to catch the ferry to Ireland. Holly greeted us after our cold and wet afternoon with tea and biscuits in the fornt room - fantastic. She then set about giving us a map and instructions for making our way through the CBD -where to eat...

I've been staying at the Shakespeare reasonably regularly for some 16 years - ever since I started at the University, and I've got to know Fred and Sally quite well since they took over the B&B. It's just consistently excellent. Wherever I stay now it is always compared and rated against the Shakespeare - from the rooms to the wonderful...

“We were on the 2nd floor at the back and were not troubled with noise at all. Apparantly there are a lot of night clubs in the vicinity, so not sure whether rooms at the front may be affected by noise from the revellers?”
