We had a lovely and comfortable stay at the Volunteer inn. Easy check-in at the bar, excellent location for exploring the cute Main Street of Chipping Campden. They kept our key for us while we explored the town. A great breakfast in the morning. Good experience overall and would stay there again.
I expected a bit more, but we booked the dreaded Volunteer in room 4, if you want to listen drunken smoking locals, effin and blinding till gone midnight everynight then the Volunteer is for you, the whole place is dirty, the breakest was barely passable, everything had a taste of curry, I have a friend who lives in the village and informed me the Volunteer hasn't got the best reputation in the village, it ruined the whole weekend of my daughters wedding...never again!!
Booked on line and was expecting the usual issues with stopping in a pub with rooms but room four is right above a smoking area and right above the Indian restaurant kitchen and the breakfast kitchen linked with a live band in the bar the noise was intolerable. The room was basic to say the least. No bed side lamp. Room light switch by the door. One pillow on each of the single beds. The pub is obviously locals orientated and each time I went in the let's stand at the bar and see how long we can stop everyone else getting served competition was in full swing. Trying to get past 5 obstinate people to even glimpse what beers they were serving was a real pain Felt like room guests were an inconvenience. Food in the on site Indian was the blandest I have ever had to endure and they couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Breakfast one was mediocre. Two consisting of scrambled egg and smoked salmon was inedible and the salmon tasted really odd. Really think they need to decide what business they are in. Needless to say I wont be staying again.…
Rooms 6,7,& 8 all use a hall bathroom. Room 9 is en-suite. Great staff - friendly & helpful. Fun pub which absolutely goes until 11p but then is quiet. Basic - thin mattress & pillows, shampoo in a squeeze package the size of a sugar pack. Quiet part of town. Lovely chef - good b’fast and the Indian food restaurant (attached) had very nice prices.
Please note that the hot water and heating are turned off between 10am and 6pm. Myself and my family learned this when staying here in order to attend a family wedding in the town. If we had been made aware, we would’ve stayed elsewhere.
I stayed here for 6 days in April and had a great experience. The staff are so friendly, polite and professional. The breakfast is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The atmosphere of the pub and beer garden were very enjoyable. I highly recommend The Volunteer Inn.
Popped in for a pint , lovely little pub , with a friendly atmosphere and a lovely pint . Staff were helpful and pleasant. And the local people were very friendly, it's a nice little old fashioned country pub.
Another superb weekend at the Volley. The staff are very friendly and the whole booking and corresponding is very smooth. Rooms were as spotless as usual. Food ( both breakfast and Maharaja) is superb. The whole experience is both relaxing and fun, just what is required for a girls weekend. We will be visiting again next year for sure. You cant fail to have a great time at the Volley and the lovely town of Chipping Campden.
We booked a room with shared bathroom for £75. When we got there we got a ground floor room with ensuite. As has been mentiond it is not the Ritz, but was clean, peaceful, comfortable and very central for us( we were finishing the Cotswold Way and catching the 6.45 am bus). It was a cool midweek night so no noise, but I can see at weekends it might be noisy. The Maharaja restaurant is in the pub so really convenient. Would definitely stay there again. Staff were great and helpful
Visited twice during the months of June & July, a very typical Cotswold village pub, a really nice well done out beer garden area in addition to the inside venue itself, I have only ever had drinks here so can’t comment on the food or accommodation. The staff are all very friendly and always seem up for a laugh and banters with you. If your feeling adventurous, try their shot called ‘The Irish Car Bomb’ its packs a kick! Recommended.
