You cannot fault the location by the river, easy to walk into Chinon over the bridge. But the site had some irritating features. The toilet blocks were all water blasted to clean them at about 7am which meant everything was dripping wet, toilet seats too, and mud was instantly walked into the shower cubicles! Cleaning obviously is good, but the... More

This was mine and the missus' first stop on a drive through France on route to Spain. Arrived around 1900hrs on a Saturday following a huge drive from Calais a little fearful there would be no pitches, but to our delight were told by Franswa that it wasn't a problem and to find a pitch and set up. Found a... More

I was worried when choosing this site as it was only 2*, but once we had settled in we were pleasantly surprised. Pitches were a good size, although a little cramped together, but had plenty of shade. The shower and wash facilities were fine, although we found exploring those further from our pitch did benefit us. We were camped near... More

The location of Camping Municipal de l'ole Auger could not be better - directly across the River Vienne from the old town of Chinon and its fortress, all easily walkable. The campground managers are very welcoming and full of suggestions for touring the area. Their passion for Chinon is infectious. Facilities are plentiful and clean. We stayed for 3 nights... More

Very nice basic camping situated next to the river, in the green riverside facing opposite the beautiful scenery of the castle of Chinon. Facility met expectations of a 3 star camping. Staff friendly and helpful. Will be there again :)

We used this as a base to tour the Loire and would recommend it for its location. The campsite was very reasonably priced and the amenities were modern and clean. The campsite is located on banks of the river and therefore it is only a short walk over the bridge into Chinon. The site was large and not particularly interesting... More

We spent a couple of nights (with a tent) in this place, as Chinon is quite handy as a base to visit the surrounding area. The location is very good, right on the side of the Loire river: you don't see the river that much because of the trees, but it's a short walk to get there. The Chinon centre,... More

We stayed here for two nights after a less enjoyable night at the Île d'Offard site in Saumur operated by Flower Camping. The two campsites are actually very similar, in that they occupy shady sites across the river from historic towns in the Loire valley. The Île d'Auger site is slightly less well appointed (no pool, etc) but generally more... More

We had not pre-booked this site before arriving but had a lovely welcome with a very relaxed attitude which is what you want on a touring holiday. We were able to pick our pitch, get set up and chill with no pressures. Site located within 5-10 minute walk to main centre which is full of various localised shops, cafés and... More

“This is a campground along a river. All pitches seemed good and the bungalow tents especially nice.”

“Plots furthest from the gate and reception, in the n-w corner of the site, are quietest. There are larger plots reserved for groups (mostly children and teenagers) to the left as you enter the site. Although the camp staff work hard to maintain good relations between the tourists and groups, pitch or park away from here to avoid disturbance.”
