Hotel Diderot is filled with charm within a city filled with history. Our first floor room opened onto the flower-filled courtyard. It had a stone wall, which gave it character and a modern bright bathroom which provided the necessities. We very much enjoyed our stay

It was pouring rain during our stay here but this is a cozy, old building. There is no lift so three long flights up would be a problem for those with mobility problems. Jamie, one of the owners, (originally from Florida) makes a lovely if somewhat limited breakfast. I especially enjoyed the FRESH fruit salad and the honey with fresh...

This is a character-loaded hotel with a lovely garden for sitting out and enjoying the French summer. It is very handy to Chinon's intriguing narrow back streets and a square with a number of good restaurants. Our Diderot room was a cool escape from 30-plus heat. It had a modern bathroom with a superb shower. The hosts provide excellent home...

Great location for Chinon as only 5 mins away from the centre by foot and some good restaurants (recommended by hotel). Not so easy to find the place with your satnav but once on the correct side of the hotel it has secure parking - great when your car is already stuffed with newly acquired wine. Rooms are simple but...

A fabulous time had by this Aussie couple. We stayed 3 nights. Highly recommended as a place to stay in Chinon. Great facilities, excellent location and very friendly, helpful staff. Good value all round. We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts with the wide array of home made jams on offer.

Although in the center of Chinon, and walkable to everything, Hôtel Diderot is a peaceful oasis of calm. Our sunny room on the top floor, overlooking the verdant courtyard, was charmingly furnished with an antique armoire, dresser, and bed. The bathroom was modern, with every amenity, and spotlessly clean. Going downstairs to breakfast, we were delighted to find a fire...

Good morning DIDDYS-MOM, these flattering comments are certainly going to keep up "pumped to the max" for the entire season. As Summer is approaching, the wisteria and the roses are still in bloom, but the woodfire has been replaced by the breakfast on the terrace... Another way to enjoy the balmy climate of Touraine and the garden of the Diderot.

There are not enough good words to describe this small, but beautiful hotel in Chinon. Thoughtful touches appoint each unique room, and the garden in late afternoon is not to be missed. Jaime & Jean-Pierre and all their staff work very hard to make you feel as if you are one of the family come for a visit. BTW, that...

I can echo all the positive things said in other reviews about the charming and friendly staff, the excellent breakfast, the lovely garden and the convenient location within Chinon. However, I would recommend trying to get a room in the (old) main building and not in the (modern) courtyard annex. The build quality is not high and the walls are...

Dear LondonScreenName, thank you on behalf of the "charming and friendly staff". We are pleased that you loved our breakfast and our garden ; and sorry you had to bear with noisy neighbors :-( They must have been uber-loud indeed, since it is the first time - in hundreds of reviews - anybody complains about noise while staying in the...

Gorgeous place...the smell and lovely sight of wisteria greets you as you enter thru the gate. Jaime and Jean-Pierre are wonderful and very helpful in suggesting restaurants in town. The location is extremely ideal...less than a 10 min walk to the main square. I did breakfast one of the mornings I was there, and it did not disappoint...your choice of...

This was one of the best hotels I stayed in while travelling around northern France. It is absolutely charming and beautiful and unique. The owners speak English which is great as well. The room is gorgeous with so many little extra touches, books, soaps etc. Ceiling beams, cute windows, curtains, flowers, mellow brick walls - just some of the things...

Ideally situated in the heart of old Chinon, nestled in the quiet and historic neighborhood of the Saint Mexme collegiate church, Hotel Diderot welcomes you into a 15th century limestone mansion, restructured in the 17th and 19th centuries. Hotel Diderot is famous for its marvelous breakfasts, offering a dizzying selection of homemade jams, delicious French breads, brioche and croissants, locally produced fresh goat cheese, honey and fruit juice. Close to the fireplace in autumn, or on the shaded terrace as soon as the warm weather arrives, the first meal of the day must be as unforgettable as the night that preceded it. Here you will find peace and tranquility ; you will experience the warm hospitality of a " tourangelle " residence, in the land of Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais, amidst the splendid vineyards of the Val de Loire, the landscape dotted with magnificent castles and unique gardens. ... more   less
