The Hotel de France suited our needs for an overnight stopover in Loches on our cycle tour of the Loire just fine. The courtyard gave us a secure location for the bikes. The location is handy to a supermarket and is right in the old town. We'd been used to buffet style breakfasts so wandered in for breakfast without booking....

Stayed 2 nights recently again, at this excellent Hotel. Could not be better situated for Loches , bang in centre, with Parking!. Owners are really friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble . Rooms comfortable and reasonably priced . Food and local wine super quality and value. Delight to dine in the courtyard when possible .

I arrived late in the afternoon, spent 1 night in this hotel and left at noon next day. As noted in previous reviews there are imperfections such as tired rooms and furniture, narrow staircases, squeaky floors, the room doors are not soundproofed. Nevertheless, those imprefections are adding to the charm of the hotel, making it homey, different from ISO-sterilized environments....

We have eaten in many restaurants and stayed in many hotels in France, but none that we go back to repeatedly except for here at the Hotel de France. The furnishings may be eccentric but the food is utterly delicious and the owners are charming.

If you like ultra modern facilities, smart, luxurious furniture and contemporary décor, don't come to this hotel! But if you want somewhere with character and real charm, you are in for a treat. Hotel de France is typical so many French independent inns - it has a real sense of history and former grandeur, albeit slightly faded and in need...

Well positioned in front of the Old City wall and ancient Gate. Public parking area nearby. Attractive "carriage" entrance. Rooms are old style and ready for a face-lift., but adequate. NO LIFT. A double cost €96 in September. The restaurant serves excellent meals at a fair price. Menus at €24 for 3 courses & €18 for 2 courses. Petit déjeuner...

We really enjoyed our stay here two days ago. The town of Loches is charming and this ancient former inn has charm and the owners were very friendly and efficient when we arrived quite late and very travel weary.. The weather had turned to rain and we also needed secure parking and the owner was very helpful in guiding us...

Many of the negative comments about this hotel are it's charm. I love it because of its individuality. You feel as if you've stepped into a story. Look around you, see the layers of history not the slightly sad grouting!

This hotel has plenty of good points. The location was perfect for the old town area. The secure parking very handy. The hotel staff were friendly and the breakfast decent enough. However, the 2 rooms we had were both poor for different reasons. My wife and I had a hotel in the main building. This had seen better days decor...

We picked this hotel as an overnight stop on our way south mainly because of its location, and the fact that it secure parking for our soft top. We arrived later than planned and though they seemed a bit grumpy, in fact all was fine. Great town and the hotel is in a lovely old building with a central courtyard....
