I spent 10 days at this hotel when I treated myself to a solo trip to Paris. The concierge/front desk attendants were welcoming and helpful with recommendations for exploring the city. As a solo female traveler, I felt very safe. This hotel is not luxurious, but it has soul and charm, just what I was looking for. And the location!...

Well, maybe not so shabby, nor is it very chic either. What it is, is an authentic Parisian small hotel with all necessary facilities and lashings of charm but no frills. On the left bank just by the Seine and overlooking Notre Dame and a small square. If you want all mod cons, air conditioning, perfect quiet and all that...

Horribly noisy - barely got any sleep - other guests were also noisy - no soundproofing on windows - one member of staff didn't take concerns seriously about other guests' noise very early in the morning - street outside is terrifically noisy - stained sheets - what looked like blood stains on the walls - wall paper torn away in...

I can't get enough of this hotel and it's views of the Notre Dame. It has become my favorite place in the world. Seriously! The staff is always kind and the hotel offers a truly Parisian experience in the heart of the Latin Quarter. I simply can't say enough about its location. Thank you, Esmeralda, for being my happy place....

Only a 4 because you honestly have to leave room for the Ritz :) I've stayed here solo and with my family several times and each time I think, "hmm, would it be better booking a 4+ star instead?", but you CANNOT beat the location, especially if Notre Dame is your pilgrimage. I religiously play the Notre Dame, Musee d'Orsay,...

The room was perfect - overlooking a garden and Notre Dame, in the perfect location. The hosts were most gracious and made us feel very welcome to Paris. Our room felt very much like Paris. Would definitely stay here again.

I decided to leave my toddler and fiancé at home and take a weekend off. I was on a budget, but was looking for something centrally located with a special charm. Something that makes me feel like Amelia...and there couldn't have been a better choice for me than Hotel Esmeralda. This hotel is a real gem. From the map and...

My second time in Paris, and second stay in this hotel. Centrally located, RER B, RER C, Metro line 4. Travel conveniently to Gare du Nord and Charles de Gaulle without train interchange. The best experience is when you can hear the Cathedral bell from your room. Few tips : If you carry a suitcase, opt for a room in...

This hotel is located 5 minutes from the RER train from the airport which makes it really convenient The rooms are very small, but you don't go to Paris to sit in your room. There is no a/c and the room I had the window only opened a little. The room was always clean and the bed was comfortable. Just...

Lovely, funky, very French. Each room done in provincial style. Great breakfast brought to room. Location cannot be beat, views from room windows wonderful. Price is reasonable. Drawback is no elevator, but not a real hindrance. This is a great, authentic experience.

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
One of the most original hotels in the French capital. Opened over 100 years ago in a 17th century building, the Esmeralda Hotel bears the name of the gypsy girl that, thanks to her grace, illuminated the story by Victor Hugo. Central, well communicated, charming, quiet, comfortable ... Each room is unique and has its own personality. Artists such as Hugo Pratt, Béjart, Gainsbourg ... were regular clients at the hotel. You can also talk about Paris, art and literature as most of our receptionists are writers and poets with PhD at the Sorbonne. Please, do not miss the authentic flavor of the Latin Quarter. Be warmly welcomed at the nearest hotel to Notre Dame for the best value for money in Paris: the staff will immediately address all your queries with their proverbial kindness. ... more   less
