I consider staying at Esmeralda after reading reviews on this website. I called them to book about two month before, and the room is secured until the day we arrived. We got an en-suite double room on the very top floor. There have only stairs which is steep and narrow, so its really hard to go up with the luggage....

I am so thrilled that I found this hotel! I just love Paris, and have been many times, and now that I have found this great little hotel in such an amazing location,,,,I will surely be back! So the hotel is old, but thats part of the charm...they say that its maybe a one star, or two...but the location is...

I have wanted to stay at Hotel Esmerelda since the early '80's when I read of its charm in Let's Go France. I was recently in Paris for 5 days for a medical conference--the official meeting hotel was 300 euros per night, so I thought this would be my chance to save a bundle and fulfil my dream to stay...

To say it has old fashioned charm doesn't really fit the bill - this place is whacky! If you expect nice clean rooms where everything works you're going to be disappointed, but if you can laugh at quirkyness you'll have a ball. Great location, bags of character and just a little bit mad.

We stayed at this 17th century hotel and really enjoyed our time there. Now understand this is a one star hotel, so if you want thrills and amenities, this is not for you. But if you want a great located hotel at a great location, at a great price 85Euros, then this is it. When you can look outside your...

I haven't stayed there in a long while, but I needed to let you all know that this place was a fantastic find. It's like something out of Paris of the 1700s. The rooms were small, dark, sparesly decorated-my small room opened up to a shaft, and this pigeion, a few times, would sit at my window sill, but then...

I stayed here in 2003 for a night by recommendation of a friend. He told me that it would be a unique and rare Parisian experience to stay here. It was. The hotel looks like any of the many small and run-down places you can find all over Paris. The rooms, accessible through a staircase you would never get down...

I brought my mother to Paris for her birthday. This hotel was a true find. Having lived in Paris, I preferred staying some place where you wake up and know where you are - rather than a typical chain hotel that looks the same everywhere. Hotel Esmeralda is right near Metro St. Michel - so we spent much time walking...

I stayed here in 1996 for 4 days. I wasn't expecting too much. However, the ambiance and location exceeded my expectations. I never asked for a wake up call. I woke up everyday to the chimes of the Notre Dame. The views were wonderful and I loved being in the bustling, multi-cultural and colourful latin quarter. It's a great and...

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
One of the most original hotels in the French capital. Opened over 100 years ago in a 17th century building, the Esmeralda Hotel bears the name of the gypsy girl that, thanks to her grace, illuminated the story by Victor Hugo. Central, well communicated, charming, quiet, comfortable ... Each room is unique and has its own personality. Artists such as Hugo Pratt, Béjart, Gainsbourg ... were regular clients at the hotel. You can also talk about Paris, art and literature as most of our receptionists are writers and poets with PhD at the Sorbonne. Please, do not miss the authentic flavor of the Latin Quarter. Be warmly welcomed at the nearest hotel to Notre Dame for the best value for money in Paris: the staff will immediately address all your queries with their proverbial kindness. ... more   less
