The hotel Gay-Lussac is what we call a ‘boutique hotel”, but it’s quite tricky to assess it as so many contradictory elements come together! The descriptive says that the same family has run it for a few decades. It shows; the hotel is in need of TLC. The room I booked had a newly installed bathroom, modern and clean. The... More

The hotel is well located close to a number of train stations and a 5min walk to Luxembourg gardens, about 20mins to notre dame and close to alot of great cafes/restaurants in the latin quarter. The room whilst in need of some refurbishment was clean and comfortable. It was a sizeable room and had a good sized bathroom, desk, tv... More

A family run hotel in the heart of the buzzing Latino quarter within walking distance of many bars and restaurants. The hotel is basic but clean and the beds are comfortable. Helpful staff. We'll certainly be back.

Had two nights here with the grandchildren, and booked a family room to sleep four of us. There was a double bed and two singles, and a shower room en-suite. It was probably a magnificent building at one time, but these days it looks like it could do with a little tlc. As seasoned travellers it was OK for us,... More

Stayed in this hotel for one night. It was very good value for money. The place was clean and quite spacious considering the price. Obviously it was not 4stars but it was not 4stars prices either. There were 11 of us, most agreed with this.

This is a sweet little hotel in a great location in central Paris. For that area, it is a really decent price, and I liked the old Parisian style of the building. Fair enough, it isn't a luxury hotel, but it is clean and comfortable, and the staff are friendly.

After reading a lot of bad comments here, I still decided to try it. The location as said could not be better. Latin quartier with a lot of things going on in the evening, best night life in Paris. Close to many cafes, luxembourg park and 5 min walking to the train station. My room was very clean, could not... More

Having read all of the negative reviews online, I had really low expectations for this hotel (which my penny-pinching husband had booked). And because of my low expectations, I was happy with the hotel. Is it up-to-date? No. The wallpaper, the flooring, the bathroom fixtures - everything is old (and in some cases patched together with packing tape and cardboard... More

The kind of hotel that feels like it should charge by the hour. Dirty, dirty, dirty! I was so afraid I would get bedbugs at this vile hotel. Big stains at carpet and bed linen, dirty and incredibly small bathroom and overall smelly and dated. Hotel manager is horribly unpleasant and is constantly barking at you in french. They force... This hotel is in an excellent location. However, we unfortunately were placed on the street side, first floor. The room was large by European standards, but not particularly clean. The worst part was the noise! We didn't sleep all night. We were so close to the street, we thought the bused were coming thorough our room. We left after 1... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
