This is our first time staying here and we loved it! I always stay in the Opera area for ease of walking and this was right near all the major department stores and popular areas. The hotel was very modern and clean. It was small but organized perfectly. The staff was friendly and always greeted you with a smile. The...

Great location, walking distance to the bourse, opera and grands boulevard. From there the tube will also take you to the train station Gare de Lyon or the quartier latin (St. Michel) in just a few minutes. The hotel is small but nice clean with a comfortable lounge. Staff members are very friendly and helpful.

I stayed here with a friend and thought it was a lovely place. Staff were really friendly from the moment we got there. Great location! The decor is very funky and there were some lovely touches in the hotel- robes and slippers in the room, a phone with free wifi that you can use to explore the city, nice toiletries...

I particularly like black and white combination and that probably was one reason ehy I liked The Chess Hotel on Rue de Helder in Paris aside from its proximity to Galleries Lafayette and Printemps shopping areas, Metro stations and several good dining outlets. Pricewise, value for money. Service, look for Virginie--such a nice helpful lady at the reception. I highly...

I chanced upon this very nice boutique hotel on bookings.com. , I was very interested in the location for most but was not expecting it to be so chic and fab. I booked it for my whole duration of stay in Paris . It's location is very nice , near Galeries Lafayette, restaurants , metro and the likes . Had...

I went for one night, the reception spoke English well and were friendly. The design of my room and bathroom was perfect and the breakfast included was diverse. The hallway when entering is something to get used to, as it feels more like a club when entering the first time, but it fits with the design vibe of this hotel.

Right in the heart of Paris this fabulous little boutique hotel is so uncomplicated and staffed with the most helpful people! The rooms are rather on the small size but everything has been thought through and whatever is needed seems to be on hand! Lovely comfortable beds and crisp linen and the decor throughout is very pleasing. The breakfasts are...

Nice boutique hotel in good location. Entrance is a bit unusual as there is nothing on the ground floor so its just a bit corridor that leads to elevator. Room was small but very clean with big nice bed. Shower was also small but very clean. Personnel is very friendly and breakfast even though does not have big variety is...

This was our first time at the Chess, and our first time in the area (9th arrondissement, close to the Opera). This facility is ideally located within walking distance to Galeries Lafayette, theatres, and museums (Orangerie, Jeu de Paume, Orsay). The street is very quiet, in a safe environment. The room and amenities were excellent, so was the service. We...

I'll start first with location.......it's perfect! It's so close to metro stations, walking distance to louvre & many more famous landmarks. It's off a Main Street and round the corner from Galaries Lafayette. What more can you ask for. The hotel, very unassuming from the outside but as soon as you walk in and go up one floor in the...

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Chess Hotel opened in 2014 in one of the most prestigious areas of Paris. Located close to the Opera, La Madeleine, the Grands Magasins department stores, and La Bourse, the Paris stock exchange, it is a unique establishment in many ways. Firstly, it astonishes with its compelling aesthetics. It boasts an original design by Gilles and Boissier, which makes striking use of beautiful materials such as linen, oak and Carrara marble. It features the bold and innovative artwork of Cyprien Chabert. From the curvaceous furniture and quality fabrics to the hues of the wood and the shape of the fixtures, no detail was left to chance. A harmonious and elegant decor has been created that is like no other. While chic and refined, the Chess Hotel is also distinguished by its welcoming and cosy atmosphere, which transforms each room into a true haven. The heart of the city beats just beyond our doorstep. Yet somehow the hotel seems miles away from any hustle and bustle. Travellers are invited to enjoy absolute relaxation. A game of chess by the fire or a quiet hour's reading on the inner terrace. Perhaps an evening spent in blissful privacy amidst the original decor and intimate atmosphere of your room. After long hours of work, or a busy day's sightseeing, you will appreciate the calm and gentle ambience of the Chess Hotel. The Chess Hotel is also exceptional in terms of facilities and services. It is a place distinguished by our efficient, yet warm and gracious, hospitality. It is a place that transcends routine. We are proud that our guests are so much more to us than simply clients. It is a charmingly friendly hotel which places an accommodating and helpful team at the disposal of all guests. We are pleased to provide personalised services and thoughtful recommendations for discovering the treasures of Paris, allowing you to venture off the beaten paths of the capital. ... more   less
