2023 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
The Villa Lara is a small privately-owned luxury boutique hotel with a chic but casual atmosphere in the historic center of Bayeux. Next to it, the Villa Augustine is set in the peaceful grounds and part of the Villa Lara and has 4 presidential suites of 220 square meters with a newly constructed interior within its original charming 19th century exterior. Both villas are adjacent and nestled in the historic center of Bayeux, in a very quiet square facing the 11th century majestic cathedral and along the Aure River. The famous Bayeux Tapestry is only 2 minutes away, the pickup point for all D-Day excursions are literally outside our door. Our 32 rooms are appointed in an elegant French style. All the rooms are accessible by lift and equipped with air conditioning, a minibar, large flat-screen TV and safe. The marbled bathrooms have a walk-in shower and a separate bathtub in most of the rooms. The 28 rooms of the Villa Lara range from 30 to 50 square meters while our presidential suites are 220 square meters, all with a view on the Bayeux Cathedral. Beds are minimum 1.80 x 2 meters and in most of the rooms can be up to 2 x 2 meters. Wireless high-speed internet access is free throughout the hotel, which features a cozy bar/lounge area with a fireplace and a library, a marbled lobby, and a breakfast room set in a traditional French style where the breakfast is prepared and served in front of the guest, from 7am till 10:30am. Our complimentary fitness center is available 24/7 and equipment includes a treadmill, bicycle, weights and strength training machines. A private carpark is available with 15 spots based on a first come first served basis, and a drop-off space for buses. Although we meet the official government criteria of a 5-star property, we do not have a restaurant, spa, nor a formal bellman at the front door. We do not want to mislead our future guests who attribute these specific amenities to their image of a 5-star property, although we do of course provide porterage and turn down. And, as always, our commitment to 5-star service is at the forefront of our day-to-day operations.

Amazing hotel, staff, and breakfast. 3rd time to visit, and this time I was able to take some of the family. This remains one of my favorite hotels. Even our local guide noted that this is the friendliest hotel in the area, as the staff greets guests on arrival with smiles and a hand out to help.

Everything about this hotel is perfect for a trip to Normandy! The staff are amazing. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff goes above and beyond to help with reservations and to make you feel welcome. Breakfast is available with charge. The hotel is a perfect location for shopping, cathedral, restaurants and many DDay tours pick up right nearby. They have secure parking. It was our anniversary and they upgraded our room and left caramels for us! Wonderful place.

From the moment of arrival it was an outstanding visit to Hotel Villa Lara. The service is wonderful. The hotel and rooms are large and comfortable. Each room is a delight unto itself (though I was told a few renovations are happening over the winter break). The food was yummy and cocktails each evening by the fire was lovely. I even was treated to a peek in the spectacular rooms (apartments) in Villa Augustine. WOW!!

This hotel was a gem and one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed 2 nights while we explored Normandy. The hotel staff was so great. They helped each night with dinner reservations and even suggested things to see in town. The hotel is in a great location to see the city on foot.

I am not a fan of reviews. However, if you are fortunate and traveling to normandie, villa lara is by far my favorite. We are extensive travelers and I have never come across a more dedicated staff. Every aspect of this hotel is top notch. Just fabulous. When checking in we met a couple from Boston that has been staying there every year since it opened (except Covid). That says a lot. HOWEVER, for me, this review would not be complete without mentioning my hero, Philippe. He is incredible Thank you Philippe. You are a true gentleman.

We stayed at the Villa Lara three nights in the beginning of November 2023. The hotel is centrally located in the very charming city of Bayeux, but also quiet and peaceful. Our room was well appointed and immaculate with a very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. Best of all is the staff which was always ready to help and provide very useful information - be it where to eat, tourist attractions or assistance with any type of booking/reservation. We are very happy to recommend the Villa Lara to all who are looking for the best hotel in the area.

Villa Lara is fantastic! We spent two nights and were so impressed with the location, beautiful room, cozy lobby bar and a breakfast with made order eggs and delicious buffet selections. The staff was over the top - Quentin is a great bar man and so helpful with dinner options. Had the chance to meet the owner Phillip and let him know his hotel is a Home Run!! BTW - the town of Bayeux is stunning. Well preserved 14/15th century everywhere and so fun to explore.
