We also parked in the very small courtyard area, at the suggestion of the hotel when we arrived. It was quite tight getting in and out of the gates, in a family-sized car, though. The public car park in the square was very close by - it was free overnight but you would have to pay during the day. I'm not sure if there was a time limit on how long you could park there.
