Wonderful location, right next to Palais des Papes. I splurged for the terrace room and did not regret it. The room itself was fine. However, I did have trouble working the AC, but I was able to remedy it by opening a window. It was nice to see people make their way in and out of the Palais des Papes. The breakfast buffet offered a continental selections with breads, scrambled eggs, and bacon/sausages. There were many restaurants nearby, and even a movie theater. The nearest grocery store is a 10-minute way from the hotel. I bought some water and soda and placed it on the mini-fridge in my room. The concierge was very attentive and gave me a map of the city as part of the welcome and some authentic French restaurant recommendations.

Hotel's Favourite
I stayed here a number of nights using Avignon as a base to explore the region. Room view of Palais des Papes. The best location on Place Horloge next to the Palace, near everything, including quite a number of Michelin starred restaurants. 12 minutes from the bus station and Gare, seven from the tourist office. Great service, always from Accor. And, not to put too fine a point on it, air conditioning in summer is excellent.

This hotel is very typical of European hotels. Rooms are slightly smaller, but it was very comfortable. Stephanie at the front desk was Extremely helpful in finding all the right places to visit and helpful with restaurant reservations and taxi ride reservations

We were so pleased that we booked this hotel. It just couldn't have a better location. Just steps away from the Palais des Papes and central to everything in Avignon. Even though it is so central it is very quiet and we always slept well. The beds are comfortable, everything is spotless, breakfast excellent and the hotel is excellent value for money. The staff here, are, without exception, friendly, efficient and incredibly helpful. We travelled on one of the national strike days in France so by the time our delayed flight arrived in Marseille airport all of the trains had stopped running. But the hotel had arranged, at our request, for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and take us to Avignon. The driver was amazing and we used him again over the weekend to take us to Arles so that we could join our Camargue tour from there. His name is Aurelien de OUIDriver and his contact number is 0033 7 66 67 77 11 He was a real find as he knew all of the best restaurants and of course the whole of the Provence area. We had a wonderful time in this beautiful and interesting part of France and all enhanced by the friendliness of the people including the lovely staff in Mercure Avignon Centre Palais des Papes.

This charming little hotel is located just steps away from the incredible and historical Palace of the Popes, inside the medieval walls in Avignon. My room was comfortable though no air conditioning available. It was cool enough with an open window however a little noisy until the foot traffic slowed down. Shops and restaurants very close by. A nice full breakfast was offered every morning. It was a very pleasant stay and I recommend.

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel in mid-October. We had a room with a lovely tiny balcony that overlooked the main square. What a joy each evening to share a bottle of wine and snacks and watch the town wind down from the tourists. The hotels location was excellent. We did have a rental car and the car park was pretty convenient once we got the hang of it. Room was a typical small room but we weren't there to stay in our room but to see the countryside of France. The staff was nice and helpful. Avignon was a good central location for us to explore the surrounding towns.

We stayed in Room 201 with a group of 14 wine enthusiasts and used the hotel as a base to explore the Southern Rhone. Although not the greatest Mercure we have ever stayed in the rooms are mostly quite small but very functional and clean. We had no view to speak of and as it was November the air conditioning is switched off so we had to leave the window open most of the time. The key to this hotel is its fantastic position albeit it is not the easiest place to get to if you are travelling in a small coach. It is possible to get a taxi from the coach drop off point to the hotel but these can be expensive and it is better to take the ten minute walk. The staff were all extremely friendly and spoke very good English and breakfast was simple but adequate. If we are visiting Avignon again we would certainly use this hotel.

We arrived early and the front desk manager let us check in without paying any additional fees. Most of the front desk spoke English and was very helpful with our other questions, as well. The room was not very large and could have been cleaner, but had everything we needed and included a view of the Palais des Papes. The breakfast was good.

No bells and whistles - minimum front desk service, and no restaurant - but at a reasonable price for the location. Our room was comfortable and spacious. It is very close to the Palais des Papes. Although our room was wheelchair friendly, the hotel is pretty inaccessible (it is surrounded by cobbled streets and some of them are steepish slopes). The (public) carpark is some distance away, and the lift wasn't working during our visit.
