Our experience in Avignon was outstanding, mostly due to Hotel du Palais des Papes! Maybe because we chose their best room,- a suite with king bed facing the Palais! The view, the atmospere, the imposing storied building in front of you, we could look out of that window all the time, morning or night. This was so right to splurge on,-and prices were reasonable. We arrived quite late and they kindly hold the restaurant open for us and the magical feeling started that night and stayed...

Came to the restaurant with 12 people on the night of Christmas Eve. It took over 1.5 hours to receive our main courses. 6 of the 14 dishes were sent back because they were cold or not cooked properly. Once our group complained, the manager did not come out to handle the situation. We asked for a manager several times, but instead they sent a junior waitress to handle the situation on her own. Other employees were sent over and said they didn't speak English, which was very confusing because they all seemed to speak English before the complaints were made. At the end we asked for several dishes to be removed from the bill and the one waiter (apparently only one who spoke English) agreed. Then the owner came out and started to demand payment, our group was upset and said no. But actually they had already removed the dishes we asked about-- so we were being yelled at for no reason. This is when things became extremely bizarre and uncomfortable. They were treating us like criminals, when in fact we were a group of 12 experienced travelers who would be happy to pay for our meals. I would never come here again or chose this restaurant for any meal while visiting Avignon.

A group of 12 for dinner on 24 December. We waited one and a half hours from ordering until service. Of 12 meals 4 were sent back. 2 duck breasts were cold and we asked for fresh ones but the same ones arrived back on the table 5 minutes later after having been reheated on a pan, no longer rare and medium rare. A young waitress was left to deal with our complaint, and it took a further 15 minutes for a manager to come. No such thing as customer care as the owner shouted at us and threatened to call the police, which we would have welcomed. It transpired that she had taken the cost of the offending meals off the bill but wouldn't let us see the bill....she was very aggressive and did not care that one third of our group had a very bad experience. Too late to even pick up some street food. Will not be back.

Perfect location with convenient parking. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Rooms were charming but tiny and the bathroom was microscopically small. The restaurant had good food and everything was reasonably priced. Nothing brilliant, but nothing bad
