We stayed in Hotel Carlton for four nights and had a mostly good experience. The hotel is in a perfect location quite close to the old town and the beach, while being away from the busiest tourist hubs. We were given a small room from the top floor with a gorgeous view to the park - otherwise the room was only okay with the old carpeting and minimal furniture. The walls seemed quite thin so you could often hear the neighbours, and it was sometimes a little hard to relax when you felt like everyone could hear you. On the plus side, the room was very easy to keep cool until we ran into issues with the AC that kept leaking water on the carpet. The staff was lovely about this and tried their best to fix it when notified. The service in general was great and every staff member we met was nice to us!

In general Hotel Carlton is good for its price, given the lovely service and great location. Maybe skip if you're a light sleeper.

Found for an emergency mission, the price and the stars are well above what one would expect, especially given the prestigious name.

The elevator is scary, even for a single floor, the staircase seems to have just come out of the works, a bed was placed against the wall as if discarded. No electrical outlet next to the bedside tables and the switch system is an enigma, the mini-bar obviously overpriced (5 euros for a Heineken...).

Breakfast remains the worst: supermarket ham, a very limited choice while a very noisy refrigerator is full of food but carries a sign indicating that all its contents are extra.

The balcony is a plus but it overlooks a noisy street.
In this regard, the windows and blinds do little to mask sounds, you can hear the slightest bird passing by or the neighbor drying her hair at 6 a.m.

The bathroom is equipped with a bathtub, which is a plus, if the water wasn't so capricious, you go from cold to hot in a short time and no slippers provided to move into the room.

The bed remains comfortable.

Arrived 29/9/24. Very clean room and bedding. However, I do have a very serious complaint. The receptionist greeted us in a manner to confirm our home location (UK) he then asserted ‘you are not a part of the EU then? We thought nothing of this and exchanged our pleasantries including our reference to our UK home being Pays de Galles. He allocated us a first floor room immediately adjacent to the lift. The noise was horrendous until 2am and started again at 5am. We were glad to leave at 6:30am. My concern is this, I don’t think this was a random room allocation, the hotel was not full. I think the receptionist discriminated against us as we were UK residents and not EU. I will never return to this hotel and it has soured my view of Nice ad a welcoming location.

We stayed in the Hotel Carlton 16-19 June 2022. The rooms are basic but functional, our room had a bath with a shower over, if you have accessibility issues I’d suggest you make a request in advance for a room with a shower.

The aircon is great! Works really well!

We paid for a balcony with city view, which was lovely to have some light and air. We travelled from and to the airport via tram and the hotel is very easily and conveniently located 5 min walk from the tram stop Jean de Medicin.

The staff were helpful with the few requests we made whilst we were there but were not able to fulfil our request for rooms to be close together, although the hotel is small so it wasn’t a problem.

The hotel has a small lounge area to wait if you are travelling as a group.

If you have thick hair take your own hairdryer, the one provided is fine for short hair or thin but struggled to dry mine effectively in any reasonable amount of time.

The hotel is conveniently located for the beach, for the casino, for old town and for the Castle - all within easy walking distance.

We also took a trip to Monaco on the train, top tip use the Trainline app to book your tickets. We didn’t as we hadn’t realised it covers Europe and stood in a 20 min queue for tickets! It’s 30 mins away.

Would totally recommend the Hotel Carlton if like us you intend on spending most of your time exploring and just purely needing a base to freshen up and sleep.

Enjoy.

Book somewhere else!!!
We have just come home from a week long stay with Hotel Carlton Nice. We travelled from Ireland.
I would not recommend booking this hotel, the walls in the rooms are paper thin we could hear EVERYTHING from the rooms beside us.
3am/4am/5am noise on our hallway, brought it to the attention of staff and they said they would 'check it out'. This was every night for the week. The rooms are very small and very dated. Reception and lobby has been recently done up but not bedrooms.
We had a bag of food/sweets in our room that we got on day 2, when we came back to the room to get ready the bag was gone. Also told the male at reception and he told me it must be there and I am not looking enough, I said cleaners must have thrown it out but they would not accept this and we didn't even get an apology, they insisted the bag was in our room and we need to look (the rooms are tiny and this was a large paper bag full, you wouldn't miss it).
Thankfully Nice is a beautiful city so we spent as little time in the hotel as possible. On checking out on our last day they had told us we could store our luggage in the hotel until our flight. When we went to do this, they didn't have a locked luggage room, they insisted it was ok to leave our luggage in the lobby beside the reception desk!
Overall this hotel is not up to standard for anyone to stay, the staff are so dismissive of real issues and I would avoid booking at all costs!

Superb location in the center, very generous and varied breakfast (fruit juice, efficient coffee machine, croissants, chocolatine, different cold meats and cheeses, yogurts, fruits, eggs, different breads, jams, honey, butter, etc.). I don't understand the last comments. Ok, the rooms are not soundproofed and there is little pressure in the shower (perhaps due to the fact that we are on the top floor but I was told that renovation work would be carried out in November). Welcoming staff, very good bedding.

Very bad experience. This hotel absolutely does not deserve its 3 stars. Starting with the receptionist who asks us to close the heavy, unwieldy door ourselves. The room is OK but lacks electrical outlets apart from a multiple socket and tiny TV screen. The dilapidated bathroom is beneath everything. Sanitary facilities in poor condition and questionable cleanliness. Very insufficient water flow in the shower, long wait time before it heats up and impossible to change the setting otherwise practically no more pressure. Very symbolic cleaning despite a one-week stay. Small balcony without parasol or blind and no separation allowing privacy with the neighboring balcony. Very poor soundproofing. We could hear our neighbors yawning. Breakfast at €14 is lousy. 1 single roll as hard as a rock and 2 mini pastries. Very basic cornflakes, milk served in a teapot, sometimes sparkling orange juice. Maid speaking neither French nor English. Anyway, the list is long... And all this at the price of €1400 for 2 people and 7 days. I forgot that at 10:50 we were asked to leave the room... Hotel that I would not recommend to anyone...

Awful hotel and rude staff. All needed gutting and starting again. Location is the only thing this hotel has as a positive. The rest is very poorly maintained.

Breakfast was poor quality and expensive and the lady running it was incredibly rude.

Stayed one week in this 3 star Hotel right in the middle of Nice. A very nice Hotel with renovated bathrooms, with rather large bath and shower and the toilet in a seperate room all newly done and CLEAN. Reception area is beautiful and the elevator seemed new and is efficient, but small. Rooms are rather small too. But have a nice large balcony with security steel shutters. Reception people are very helpful and always ready to help. We didn't take the breakfast option. All of Nice is within easy walking distance, the pedestian area is one block away, the meditereanian sea is two blocks away and the trainstation a 5 min. walk. The large shopping street with the Gallery Lafayette dep. store is 3 min. away.
A large McDonalds is only 2 min. walk away. Great for that cup of coffee we miss in France. The bus to and from the airport stops two blocks away. We enjoyed our stay and at about US $65,oo a night a great deal too! And so much to see in and around Nice with Monte Carlo or Cannes just a short train/bus ride away.
