The room is nice for the price and the location is bearable, would give it a 4/5 if not for the power cut that happen on the first day of our stay and lasted 24 hrs. To be fair, the power cut is neighborhood-wide and not within the controls of the hotel management, but what infuriates me is the lack of proper response for it. This problem is also mentioned in other reviews so it only points out a major problem that the hotel management has no plans to address at all. You will hear from the management that it is not their responsibility but there should be some appropriate response at least, even if it is giving guests updates about the power outage. if it doesn't happen, great! if it does it can ruin your day.
The location was really good, the hotel is close to the main train station, which offers access to buses and metro lines. Unfortunately, the staff struggled to understand and/or speak English, it was very disappointing. Also, the wi-fi could have been better.
Although our stay was fine, we had a very bad experience. My brother-in-law forgot his tablet in his room. He had left it on the floor near the wall and in the morning upon drawing the curtains open the tablet was hidden behind so he didn't see it. Arriving in our next hotel destination (Villeneuve-Loubet) he realized the tablet was left in Toyoko-Inn. He immediately called the hotel and the security guy told him no tablet was found. He went to personally check the room that happened to be empty as no guest was in that room that night. He then told my brother-in-law he didn't find anything. We called the hotel again the following day and we got the same answer. We sent an e-mail to the hotel manager only to get the same answer. Since there was no other guest in that room it seems that only people from the hotel entered it. We can not believe a tablet can vanish without a human intervention so we suspect that somebody from the hotel found it but didn't deliver it to the reception. This matter ruined the remaining days of our vacation and left a bitter taste in our mouths. I sent a complaint to the Tourism Office in Marseilles but they couldn't answer me as they are on public holidays! So, if you stay in that hotel double and triple check your room before you leave because if something valuable is forgotten it's more than certain it won't be recovered or compensated.…
Came here as a solo female traveler, have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. The second I walked outside the hotel in daylight I was being catcalled and taunted. Area is run down, dingy, and unsafe. I was terrified walking alone at night. The hotel itself had nice rooms with basic functionalities and a decent price. Solo and female travelers are much better off in a hostel in the center of the city. The other reviews did not explain just how about the location truly is.
I spent two nights at Toyoko Inn Marseille Saint Charles in December 2021. I stayed in two different rooms during my stay there, both rooms being of the same size and design. A small single room with twin sized bed. At my arrival the check-in process was smooth. I was given the keycard to my room, information regarding the included breakfast and about the latest time of check-out. Being a Japanese hotel the whole interior is that style. The rooms are small and minimalistic. Bed frames are rather low though high enough to fit luggage under and matresses are also quiet thin which did not bother me at all and not uncomfortable at all. The bathroom is also very small and walking into them is like walking into a small "grand" plastic porta-potty. The room I stayed in the first night had a lamp that doubled as a night-table. The lamp was not working and seemed to have some yellow burn marks on it. My first night there and when in bed I heard an annoying whistling sound coming from the window. After attempting to open and close the window few times the whistling sound was still there. It went on the whole night and I woke up few times to the sound. The morning after when heading out I went to the front desk and spoke to a staff member. He told me that later in the day when I arrived back that I would get a new room. When I then arrived back in the evening and went to the front desk there was another staff member working there. That person told me a handyman had been sent to my room, that the handyman could not find any problem and therefore they could not do anything for me. That I could not get a new room. I then pulled out my phone and let him see and listen to a video I had recorded of the whistling sound. The front desk staff member told me he surely could hear some sound but still... nothing they could do for me cause the handyman couldn't find a problem earlier. That his managers decision was the final decision. Bascially he accepted and confirmed that there was a problem after hearing the video but decited to be extremely bureaucratic. I acctually had to raise my voice and debate with him to finally get a new room appointed. Very uncomfortable experience and something that could have easily be avoided. I got a good nights sleep the second night. Taking a shower that morning I waited good 10 minutes infront of the shower as the water stayed cold. After those 10 minutes I decided to take a cold shower and it was not until I was about finished showering when the water finally started to warm up. The water never got warm enough though, only luke-warm. The breakfast was very basic but that was mostly due to covid-19, or so it said adleast at booking. The staff at the breakfast hall had little or no english knowledge and was hard to communicate with. The breakfast was very unfriendly for a lactose-intolerant person. A good addition would be a non-dairy butter, oat-milk or even a lactose-free cheese. After eating my first morning there I noticed a chart on the wall with allergens. The chart was placed in the area where the trash-bins are and where you normally take your empty plate after eating. Would it not be simply smarter to place that chart/poster somewhere the customers see it before they ate? And once again being a hotel that caters to international customers it would as well be smart to have that chart of allergens in more languages than french only, perhaps in english. The constant "elevator-music" in every hallway of the hotel playing french radio-channels is also strange or even outdated.…
Morning Hotel management at Marseille branch I am so happy during my stay and recommend to stay there as the price was very reasonable and very clean spot l. My complain actually regarding the shadow TV LCD on the main setting room. I was not happy with the broken flurry images . Would you please pass this message to the management team either to maintain your TV or buy new one as the TV hurt my eye . My pleasure to eat my breakfast and watch the news on the mean time, but it did not happen during my stay. please solve the issue when you can it help the satisfactory of your hotel visitors that enjoy having their breakfast while watching the News. I am sure your boss will be happy to solve the problem asap to keep his business on the high standard because he is very logical person according to his book that he wrote and I have read in the room…
Overlooking a building site and infested with rats it was certainly a interesting stay. In fact the only reason it doesn’t get one star is because of the staff. They were friendly throughout and always on hand if needed. Inside the accommodation was clean but basic, maybe on the brink of needing updating. No food is available in the evening which is a shame and for sure a loss for the company, however you are able to get takeaways delivered and eat in the garden. All in all I would maybe find alternative accommodation on my next visit.
Stayed two nights and found hotel to be clean, comfortable and good value for money. Room was quiet and bed was very comfortable. Stayed during a heat wave but room was at perfect temperature but didn’t need to turn on the a/c! On the downside the breakfast was poor. Cheap bread rolls and greasy mini-viennoiserie, opted for the cornflakes on second day. The coffee was awful. On the upside the staff were nice, hotel clean, left luggage area is free, good WiFi, and the bathrooms electronics have to be seen to be believed :-) A good place to stay if you want value for money and stay in a modern building.
The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from St. Charles bus station and 7 minutes walk from Arch de Triumph, it's a perfect location to explore city. My room was very clean and quiet, I had very nice sleep all the four night I spent in Marseille. Bathroom was extremly clean too. I would go for five stars if only the breakfast had diversity. Breakfast was continental but low in choices. The food was good but I expected from such a nice hotel more choices. Generally was an excellent hotel who strongly recommend.
Except for the breakfast, which was very, very basic, the hotel is absolutely fine. Room designed in a simple way, although modern and nice. There is a fridge in the room, which is great advantage. Bathroom is a bit bizarre place, but not for somebody, who had opportunity to visit Japanese hotel before. If you've been to Japan, you will find the bathroom quite typical. If to have in mind the price, there is nothing to complain about.
