The Grand Hotel Beauvau is located in the center of Marseilles, opposite the Vieux Port. Legendary writers and musicians have stayed in this charming hotel. This exceptional place is a reflection of Provence and its decoration is a beautiful combination of old furniture and Provençal fabrics. The hotel has an incredible view over the Vieux Port and the sea beckons for escape and travel. (MGallery collection).

I have nothing but accolades. In fact, I think the hotel website does not emphasize some of its amazing features. We selected a suite because, due to terrible jet lag, my husband and I often struggle with sleep and we wanted the 2nd floor as a more private sanctuary. What we didn’t know was how big the entire suite is, including the enormous 2nd level. The upstairs bathroom has both a bathtub and a separate shower! The bed is a true king-sized one with high quality pillows and bedding.

Even more surprising is that the first floor has an additional toilet! This is quite rare in our experience with the grand, old European hotels. It was quite a welcomed luxury.

The total square footage should be included in the hotel’s description because it’s quite a strong point. The room is simply huge.

The breakfast is tremendous—a carafe of coffee or a pot of tea on your table, plus a generous spread of breads, pastries, fruits, cheeses, yogurts, pancakes, waffles, a do-it-yourself crepe station, and an opportunity to boil your own egg or choose scrambled (which were fluffy and delicious). I recommend including the breakfast when booking your room.

Lastly, this hotel has superb views that will linger in your memory for a long time. Many other hotels face the Basilica so have only a side view of Vieux Port, but Grand Hotel Beauvau has a magnificent view centered on the port.

Truly, this hotel is worth every penny, and then some.

Excellent four star hotel with good amenities in the rooms - shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel, body lotion plus nail file, shower cap, cotton buds, cotton wool pads and water in the mini fridge, safe in the room. Dressing gown and slippers provided. I paid extra for a slightly larger room with a view of the Old Port and it was well worth it. The Port is noisy but the double glazing is very good. The A/C in the room was good. The room and bathroom were clean and serviced daily. I thought the shower could do with an upgrade - no hotels have a hand held shower these days but it was sufficient. Also the room carpet and the main stair carpet are tired and could do with replacing but they were clean and vacuumed. The reception staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful, always pleased to see me when I came back in and interested in knowing what I’d been up to. Milolo was especially good, getting my room ready a bit earlier when I arrived on an early flight, helping with information and printing out my boarding card when I left, but they were all lovely. As a single woman traveller I felt safe and comfortable/at home in the hotel and would highly recommend it. I would definitely go back.

The location of this hotel is stellar. It’s smack in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Old Port. Besides the waterfront views of the port, this location is packed with nearby restaurants and shopping, perfect for tourists. It’s also a hop away for boat tours/cruises to other Marseille attractions. The metro/subway is right across the hotel. There is also a great shopping mall about 10 mins by uber. The breakfast (not free) served ever day on the first floor is very elaborate and had a wide selection of hot and cold options, and again with breathtaking views of the port. The customer service was great and our room was spacious and the bathrooms were updated and clean. Our loft style deluxe room had a full bath and a half bath and a balcony overlooking the port. We fully intend on going back here if we are in Marseille again.

We had a rental car and this was going to be our last overnight before taking the TGV to Paris. We drove around and around and around trying to find some way to get to the hotel. It was just impossible, so we ended up leaving our rental car with the rental agency at the train station where we had originally picked it up. We then took a taxi to the hotel.

We found the gentleman who checked us in to be not terribly knowledgeable. We went to our room which was on the seventh floor in the Chopin Suite. We immediately had to call down to the desk because of a sound coming from the air conditioning system. The engineer was called to see if he could remedy this situation but we ended up just turning the fan off. Our telephone did not work for making a call down to the desk so of course we had to go down to the desk each time we had a question or wanted to place an order. Since there is no restaurant or room service for a meal or a snack we had to go outside the hotel. Part of the neighborhood is not very safe although the hotel itself does have a good location with a view of the harbor.

We found the room to be very tired and the rug soiled. This is one of the oldest hotels if not the oldest hotel in Marseille but really needs to take a good look at freshening it.

We did not stay to have the breakfast in the hotel. So, I can’t review that but see that others found it to be very adequate.

Other than the lovely views from the room I doubt that I would ever stay here again. There are just other options of hotels that are more up-to-date.

Positives - sea view rooms bring a feel of really being in Marseilles. Shower was great. Slippers in room helped prevent queasiness over the dirty carpet. Nespresso machine appreciated.

Negatives- shabby furniture, even in upgraded room. Dirty carpet and upholstery. Overwhelming scent of cleaning agents/air freshener. Ventilation system nonfunctional, and if windows were opened, noise from street was very loud.

There is no car parking on site, though underground parking is nearby. Recommend finding the Charles de Gaulle garage and parking there prior to checking in.

We spent a weekend in Marseille and the location is the best thing about this hotel. It's so well-located just next to the Vieux Port with direct metro and bus access, taking you anywhere in the city easily.

Beautifully renovated modern rooms while retaining some antique furnitures, which we feel add some characters. The bed is soft and dreamy. The only thing I didn't like about the room was the toilet bowl which is way too high (probably related to ancient plumbing as the hotel is situated in a historic building)...my feet were left dangling so it was not the most comfortable position...

The Vieux Port is buzzling (even at midnight!) so there is a bit of noise even with the windows closed, but we enjoyed the convenience and side view of the port from our corner room. The staff we encountered were all very friendly and welcoming.

Great spread at breakfast with both American and French items (a rarity in French hotels). In our opinion a hotel of this calibre should have at least a gym if not pool, or a spa, but other than a bar there is no other facility. The restaurant also only serves breakfast. Well, another reason to go outside and soak up the atmosphere :)

Highly recommend this hotel for a weekend/city break.

This hotel is right in the centre of it all. Apparently, it was the first hotel in Marseille, well over a 100 years old! Great central location especially for the day tours we did from Marseille. Our two pick up points were a 7 -10 minute walk. Also tons of restaurants close by, metro station 2 minute walk (easy to get to the hotel from the train station, can walk or take the metro) and a small grocery store to grab snacks and drinks 5 minutes away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our view of the harbour was amazing. The breakfast was very expensive (26E) so we didn't partake, However go out the hotel, turn right and 25 meters away is a boulangarie where we got our morning croissants for 1E each. The room was comfortable, beds comfortable (double bed and single bed converted from the sofa...mother and daughter trip), shower very good etc. All good.

Our 4 th visit to Marseille and we’ve stayed in different locations around the centre.
Marseille has made impressive efforts to ease connections for the pedestrian and the locator of the hotel is hard to beat. Easy walk from St Charles along the main drag.
Double glazing is good, love the old world air and the sense of history. Effective air con and fabulous view from the bar
Large comfortable bed, expected 160 cm but was a king. We were on the Eastern side (not the port), Great sink space in bathroom. Loved the occitane de Provence products.

Generally this hotel was great. The people were very nice and spoke enough English (for us) and were generally happy to help in any way. The common areas were all beautiful.
We opted for a 7th floor suite - The Chopin Room. Honestly, the room was pretty tired as far as furniture, carpeting and window treatments. The Carpeting had stains on it. The piping on a few of the chairs was coming off as well. We did have a chance to look at the other room in this class and it seemed to be in better shape.

The breakfast was wonderful and that room and the adjacent bar on the 1st floor had great views. The patio/deck had amazing views of the port.

I think that as a tribute to the great employees who work there, they should redo at least this room.

Here are some tips.

The bar on the first floor will give you a bucket of ice for your room if you ask.
You need to insert your room key in the holder near the door for the electric to work.
We arrived mid day and had to be let out a block away because they block off the street to car traffic at some point during the day.
The front desk people are great. They will sell you bus/Metro tickets there and make restaurant recommendations etc.
There is a Monoprix grocery store just a block away.
There is a mini bar in the room that was complimentary.
There is a Nespresso machine in the room and 4 servings of coffee and milk.

Again, this is such a nice property with a great location and staff! Maybe all of the other rooms are just great and just Chopin was in need of help. Enjoy!

This is tucked away in a side street that runs parallel to the Marseille wharf area but well-located. It is a little tired and has a construction site next door however the Accor group has endeavoured to spruce it up. Initially we had a room looking away from the wharf area and decided to upgrade for 50e to a dock view room. It was worth it as you could see all the movement and change of mood across the harbour. The other rooms would be darker and much less interesting. Room was comfortable and well=appointed. Reception staff were very helpful. Great little bar on first floor overlooking wharf area. Breakfast seemed expensive, full buffet style, when much cheaper patisserie cafe breakfasts are available nearby.
