This is easily the best hotel of our trip to France. The view of the port was absolutely magnificent, with a very beautiful sunrise greeting us in the morning. The staff are incredibly friendly, the level of hospitality and comfort is on top, and everyone deserves a separate royal praise! First of, we were welcomed by Ewa at the reception. She was very great at helping us order a table at Les Trois Forts. Our initial plan was to have dinner at the restaurant for one of our family member’s birthday. Yet we were so pleasantly surprised by everything, that we decided to stay for the night. Ewa did all the best to help us choose the room, and organizing our stay. We couldn’t help but bring a small gift for her amazing work. Some time after we entered our room, we received a birthday gift from the hotel. This was a very nice touch, and they were absolutely precise with the choice of the gift. A very big thank you. The dinner was absolutely wonderful, and will remain one of our highlights of the trip. Big praise to Robin, who served our dinner, and brought us an excellent atmosphere for the evening. And once again, didn’t forget to include a small surprise to our birthday celebrator. We also visited their excellent SPA and fitness facilities. With lovely and very helpful staff there as well. We spent our hour in the sauna and jacuzzi pool. And in the morning I had a very good workout in the small fitness room. Sadly, they got a little confused with our laundry, and didn’t clean it. But they gave us some excellent chocolate in compensation. And as a cherry on top, big thank you to Silvi for helping us with ordering the taxi for our train. To sum up, if you find yourself in Marseille, I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough, as it is simply perfect for a nice family stay.

I come often to The Sofitel in Marseille and each time I arrive and check in I am welcomed with such warmth and good service. It is difficult to find fault with this hotel, nothing is too much and the staff in all the services are excellent. Breakfast on the 7th floor with a view over the Old Port is a good way to start my day as is the lunch on the 3rd floor.

Lovely venue with great views, but we only dined. The meal was nice but very limited choice for any dietary requirements. They did try to be accommodating however. My main issue was paying 64 Euros for 2 starters of Courgette. Yes there was work to chop up the vegetables - I am guessing the head chef himself took hours to do this to justify charging 32 Euros for the starter which is a side plate in size.

I lived in France for 12 years but never visited Marseille! This city has an unjustified bad reputation. My trip to Marseille last week proved that this city needs a great marketing campaign. I LOVED MARSEILLE, and I loved Sofitel View Port. The hotel is by far the best location for walking distance to everywhere. Don't let me start with the view of our 6th-floor room. Just heaven on earth. Unobstructed views of the viewport, Mediterranean sea, all the small and big boats, old churches, new buildings, museums, etc... just divine. Bravo to the management; all staff was super polite, helpful, nice, and smiling at all times. At the reception desk Thomas, Agnisa and all staff at the outdoor breakfast,... Breakfast was delicious, with lots of choices. I loved one of the jams and asked where we could buy them. They gave me the address, but the store was out of town, and we were leaving France. They gave us a new jar as a gift!!! Just good people working and living in a beautiful, colorful, and safe town. Put Sofitel Marseille on your list of places to go. You won't be disappointed!

The most important aspect of a hotel is probably the quality of your sleeping experience. I am a heavy sleeper, so it’s usually not a problem for me. This time it mattered. I woke up at 2:15 am with 3 bug bites on my hands. Now, 12 hours later they still itch and are quite swollen. I couldn’t go back to sleep for well over an hour because the room was so hot. We turned the thermostat down as far as we could, but I was sweating under a single sheet. Personally, I can’t stand the hair dryers that require me to keep a button depressed in order to keep it running. This hotel’s hair dryers work like that, which can be a problem for anyone with arthritis or a hand injury. The placement of the button itself was better than in many other hair dryers of this type. I know, it’s a first world problem but I’m mentioning it anyway. The room (superior double) was pretty small, although the bathroom was roomy and well designed. On the positive side, there was shampoo AND conditioner available. (I have noticed a lack of the latter in a lot of hotels lately.). The lobby was lovely as was the rooftop bar.

This area (the Old Port) is truly lovely and the Sofitel with the next door Novotel have a superb location. Our room has a stunning balcony with table chairs and 2 sunbeds with a view over the Port to die for, the room was very well furnished too. Concierge and housekeeping were the true highlights of this hotel. The Spa facilities are ok but they mention swimming pool which is just a large jacuzzi which is nice but you cannot swim. In my experience the French have amazing hotels but they are badly managed. For instance they took 150 Euro per day "damages" when I arrived but this had never been mentioned during the booking process. Mmmm. Then the lady Manager refused to release this deposit despite them having the room prepaid PLUS my credit card details for any "damages". Grrr. The front desk seem to me totally incompetent which is a shame as the hotel is lovely and works very well, apart from them! I have stayed many times in France and I love France, but I do not rate their manages at all.

Arrived and the front desk ignored me for quite a while. When I did get served it was very slow. Room was very plain and not what you see in the photos (see photo of my view). Breakfast NOT included which is shocking, what's even worse is charging 30 euro for it each morning! AC did not work (essentially a glorified fan). House keeping was nice and it was clean. Not 5*. Oh and they take 150 euro per night as a deposit per room which makes you overdrawn. Be warned.

Short holiday with my adult daughter & we wanted to have an enjoyable few days. Overall this hotel has very nice staff, comfortable beds and great views from bar & restaurant. The spa access was ok but not in our opinion excellent- we enjoyed a reasonably large hydro pool, steam room and sauna. Only one shower was working properly and the other was the one that had no soap/shampoo the first day. We were expecting more from the spa access such as an aromatherapy room, various showers with jets and some juice and fruit plus a relaxation room. However, the outside seating was nice, & there is a gym with various machines if you wish to workout. The hotel is a little out of town and you do have to pass some homeless people on the way which is a little uncomfortable especially for females travelling alone. Our room was spacious with very comfortable beds and tea and coffee free. However the water bottles were not complimentary. We arrived late our first evening due to a flight delay & complimentary water would have been very welcome, but only tea and coffee seems free in the hotel room, water is €6 for a 500ml bottle. We had cocktails and tapas on the rooftop that first evening; cocktails varying from €15 to €22. The breakfast the following 2 mornings was nice but expensive. Breakfast is a great display of food but food is not very hot eg French toast is cold and has to be reheated which doesn’t really work. The fruit, granola and bread is lovely. We mentioned that we would have to miss breakfast on our final morning due to flight times & rather than be told that a little take away cold breakfast would be made up ( breakfast was included in our stay) we were advised that we could look at room service. We walked to our sightseeing destinations and the hotel is about 10-15 min walk to bars and restaurants and 30 -40min to museums etc. We had dinner on our final evening in the hotel brasserie. Dinner is expensive and a bottle of wine starts at €35. We arrived early at circa 6pm after a rain downpour & we got our dinner promptly. We lingered over our bottle of wine only to be told a short while later that the table was reserved! There were only 4-5 couples in the brasserie! We advised the very nice waitress that we were not told when we arrived that we would have to vacate the table by a certain time & she had to call the more senior waiter who did not argue. This, however put a dampener and sour note to our final evening. Is the experience worth €300? Probably not unfortunately. For us the spa, the final night dinner and the special individual touches just didn’t make the grade. Nice but not exceptional. Mary
