Marseille can be an unpredictable city. I work in tourism, and I tend to compare it to Naples in Italy when I talk to clients. Finding an affordable amazing hotel in Marseille is not always an easy task. This hotel though is that perfect place that will have you coming back time and time again whether you are a tourist or in Marseille on business. I wholeheartedly recommend it! First off, you cannot beat the location. The main thing that anybody has to see in Marseille is the Vieux Port. If you go there and you don't see it, there is NO POINT! It is magnificent! You cannot get any closer to the Vieux Port than this hotel. You also have the boat that takes you to the Calanques and the ferry to l'estaque, right next to it. You also have a plethora of restaurants. The hotel is not far from Napoli Gang, the Big Mamma to go restaurant in Marseille. Secondly, the staff is absolutely fabulous! They could not be nicer and more professional! Thirdly, THEY HAVE A ROOFTOP TERRACE! WHERE IN FRANCE, ARE YOU GOING TO FIND A HOTEL THAT IS AFFORDABLE WITH A ROOFTOP TERRACE OVERLOOKING A MAJOR MONUMENT AND THE PORT?! When I arrive late,my favorite thing to do is to go either to Pizza Capri in the Vieux Port or Napoli Gang, get a pizza to go and eat it on the ROOFTOP terrace surrounded by beauty and the scent of thd ocean. Nothing like it! This hotel has made so many of my trips to Marseille and I'm writing this review so it will make yours. Get this hotel! You won't regret it!…
A very basic but clean room. The location and rooftop terrace is what sells this hotel. We went for a girls night and it was perfect. The staff were very friendly and all spoke perfect English. I would say that this hotel is perfect for a visit to Marseille. It is a place to lay your head. I will go back because I loved the terrace.
We stayed at this hotel two weekends ago for one night . The hotel itself sits on a corner just behind the main road that runs along the old port So it's location is good . Underground car parking is a brisk 5 minute walk away and cost 12 euros for every 24 hours . Visually from the outside this two star hotel is presentable as is the small reception area and breakfast / coffee lounge on the ground floor The hotel has a disabled lift for guests to take them up a level to the main lift Which covers four of the five floors . Reception staff were friendly and helpful and spoke a good level of English . The hotel entrance is guest access only via reception intercom system. Now it gets negative There is a lift from the fourth floor to the fifth which is where our room was situated but on the day we stayed it was being used to transport boxes of wine and beers , so we had to take a set of narrow spiral stone stairs up to our room 501 . On opening the door to our room we were greeted by a strong over powering smell of damp , must and urine The small entry carpet was filthy with a large stain right in the middle which we believed was urine. The bedroom was clutter with beds ,a double bed plus a single plus a further pull down bed There was no place to move and we had to squeeze between the beds and round them . That was all that was in the room The beds had these orange runners at the foot of them that stank of damp and were in need of a good wash . More disgusting stains were on the carpet around the edge of the room . The sliding doors exit to a small astro turf patio with table and chairs with a reasonable side view of the harbour Unfortunately it could not be used as that evening they had a happy hour roof party on the roof above our room and terrace That started at 6 pm and finished at 2am with loud music So we had drinkers hanging over flicking cigarettes onto us and our patio. Bathroom had been updated but not finished and was grubby , bath not fit for purpose . Overall room was grim and stank and should not be have been let At 145 euros for the night plus 8 euros each for breakfast and 12 euros for parking it was a total rip off and grossly overpriced Would never stay again or recommend In my opinion the photos of the bedrooms are very very decieving and don't accept room 501 if allocated to you…
Far too expensive for what you get: Not really with a bathroom- only a tiny toilet with shower (with one small towel per person), cheap decoration and thin windows (no noise protection). The worst: Quite dirty !! Very simple breakfast not included in the price of 135€ per night- excl.tax. (And you have to carry the tray to the fifth floor by yourself of course, including the two floors without elevator!) No service at all. Attention: You will get wet crossing the terrace to enter the room if it is raining. Wonderful view indeed and very central location at the old harbour BUT don‘t trust the guidebooks like ‚Gite Routard‘: It is definitely not worth the money. Rent a cheaper room in the same hotel or switch to the next one around the corner and pay a bit more for a clean and cosy room with the same view!…
We booked mainly because of the superb location literally just off the port, plenty of bars and restaurants close by. The staff were helpful, but the room was small, sparse and very basic, no nice furnishings , no tea/coffee or water in the room, no wardrobe just a metal framed stand. A bit noisy, but clean, it was adequate for one night, but not luxurious, i wouldn't want a long stay there
I changed my Ibis Hotel booking with breakfast to this one in favor of their rooftop deck, which I did not regret because of the comfort I had during my stay. I requested for a room with a view, wanting the top floor room, next to the viewing deck. Unfortunately, it was occupied the day I arrived. However, I got assigned to the third floor with a partial view of the port, a wonderful sight ensured, at least I could see the Notre Dame De La Garde and the boats from my window. It was beautiful during the day and was spectacular at night. Since the Vieux Port is the ultimate destination in Marseille, to be staying in the district gave me the most convenient access to all. I got to see the If Chateau and Frioul Island as most tours start from here. It allowed me to also stay late at night and wander along the port to any restaurants and souvenir shops.…
It is incredibly well situated, right by the Vieux Port. It's such a central location, making it easy to get to anywhere, the Panier, and all other old neighbourhoods. The staff is always great as well. The breakfast is very well appointed.
We stayed here 1 night. Hotel is the usual fairly basic 2 Star set up. Bedroom was very small and just managed to take the double bed. It had a nice side view of the old port. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Roof terrace had good view but no bar. We had a car and parking was ok with a reduced charge at a car park 200m from hotel.
The Hôtel Hermès Vieux Port is, from my point of view, fantastic! Steps from Marseille's old port (i.e., in Marseille's historic and touristic heart), this hotel has much to recommend it: The roof deck, open 24/7 (and with a bar on weekend evenings) is a delight. The breakfast buffet isn't the most extensive I've ever seen, but it holds a very nice array of different hot and cold dishes -- including some wonderful cheeses. The rooms are simply, but very efficiently, furnished, and many (all?) offer a just a bit of a side view of the harbor. It's staffed 24/7, and all the staff I encountered spoke English well; I'd describe them as commendably helpful. If I'm ever fortunate enough to return to marvelous Marseille, I will definitely try to stay here again.
It's my first time in France and I am traveling solo so I was really nervous before my trip - Marseille was my first stop and everything was beyond my expectation, the hotel was really easy to find and close to metro station, the reception Marion was so friendly and helpful, the rooftop bar had fantastic views (during the day and night), one of the guys even stayed in Sydney for 6 months, what a small world. There were plenty of cafes around vieux port and it's easy to get ticket for hop on hop off bus, pretty good value for tourists.
