What a beautiful place and what terrible service. 1. Room wasn’t ready at the time they said it would be. 2. I needed ice because I bumped my head in their slippery bathroom and they wouldn’t give me ice? We called reception first. They picked up after 5 minutes and told us to call the room service. Room service picked up after 5 minutes and told us that they would send it and never did. My husband went down to the restaurant and they told us that they couldn’t give us ice. What?!? 20 minutes later security brought us ice?!?! What?!? 3. We parked our car and paid the hefty 49 euro (which I understand). On our way out, we were rushing to a wedding and they made us wait 20 minutes (twenty!!) because of a tour bus that blocked the way. What?!? We tried to talk to them to understand what was going on and nobody communicated with us. So we are now running late…. Terrible service. Truly terrible. Do not go there.…
Very nice, high end hotel in the center of Marseille, very close to the old port. The hotel opened around 2014 but feels brand new. Everything was to a very high standard. The room was of a good size, with a large bathroom with both a walk in shower and a bath. Everything was in good working order and good condition. Staff were friendly and helpful. There is a very nice terrace on the second floor for drinks or breakfast. The location is great. Very close to the old port and easy walking distance to the main sites like the Mucem, the Fort St. Jean, etc. Great place to explore the city from.
Beautiful hotel with a marvelous view. Food is nice but not exceptional. I would have given this hotel a better rating if not something unexpected happened. We are here with 350 people for a conference. When checking in I had to wait 3 hours until my room would be ready, nevertheless one of my business partners arrived 1 hour later then me and got his (same) room immediately upon arrival. Oh well, a good opportunity to check out the lunch at the terras with a glas of wine. Upon receiving my room, the receptionist told me my bags would be brought to the room. 30mins in the room, I called reception to ask where my bags were, I was informed they would come immediately. 10mins later I receive a call, the receptionist telling me the Manager has decided that the guests taking part in the conference do not receive these extra services and will have to pick up their own bag, not at the reception, at a room designated for bags without the help of staff. I thought oh well, rather strange, but probably there will be so many bags that they just cannot handle it. After receiving directions, I was quite surprised that, the room was not only unlocked, the door wide open, no supervision at all and there were only 2 bags in the room. My bag and laptop with sensitive information was completely unsupervised and although we were charged just over 300€ per night and we are filling the hotel with 350 guests, we get zero service. I thought this was rather striking, knowing that the conference takes place 3 times per year in different hotels across Europe, why would one take such a management decision, yet charging the guests for a normal service. I haven’t experienced anything like this in any of the other hotels during a conference stay. Furthermore I overheard one of the staff members (unintentionally) ask the conference organizer for his number (understanding it was for the bill so the person meant room number), the guest whom happens to be an older person of Jewish descent, politely corrected the person saying, please ask for my name instead of for my number, I am a person. One does not expect (unintended) mistakes like that in a hotel like Intercontinental Marseille.…
This hotel is superbly located and very impressive looking from the outside. Inside it's decor is standard fare, if somewhat bland - a missed opportunity to reflect its architectural heritage in my view. Having stayed in many IHG hotels I was disappointed by the service from arrival onwards. Check in by unfriendly staff set the tone. It felt really unwelcoming and continued throughout my 4 night stay. Everything was too much trouble it appeared...such a shame that the guests were getting in the way of their efficient operation. The room was relatively spacious, clean and well equipped. I was a bit disappointed to find that after being upgraded on the IHG app to an executive room, on check in I was actually given the room I had booked. I can't complain at that of course, just express my disappointment. Service in the bar was appalling at the best of times and it was never very busy to justify poor service in any way. I did complain and the F&B Manger sent us a glass of champagne by way of compensation - a nice gesture. Apart from the very cool, disinterested, poor service levels in this hotel, I don't quite know why it didn't hit the mark of other hotels in the chain or of this standard...but sadly it didn't.…
I would like to say that overall we had a very enjoyable stay, the building itself is beautiful, the rooms are nice and it has a nice atmosphere. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The staff aren’t rude or anything like that, but they’re miles from what you’d expect at this price point. A few examples: - pre-arrival I sent an email asking if breakfast was included in my rate. I got no response. - During the stay I asked if late checkout was possible, again I got no response. - Nobody told us you need to book the pool which resulted in a disappointed child when we were told we couldn’t go in. - Service on the terrace is so slow. We waited 20 mins one day just to have our order taken. Every drink took 20-30mins to arrive and we were repeatedly brought the wrong drinks. In summary, lovely place but lots of staff training needed to make this place shine like it should.…
Service is extremely bad. There was no possibility to drink anything anywhere in the hotel. They advised to go to the room and take the €20!!! small 25cl Heineken beer from the minibar in the room. And all that for a €1000 per night price
Reasonable rooms, only the front rooms are worth the money. Exceptionally rude staff, especially the management. Do not serve any drinks when it’s 40 degrees because they’re too lazy & cocky. Get into a discussion/fight with guests due to arrogance, think they’re ‘greater’ then the guests because of management titles. Bar/restaurant mgmt should he let go off and replaced for people that live & breath hospitality. Never visiting again.
What a sht hotel. We where a group of 200 people. They know that we’re are coming. But the bar was closed and the restaurant was open at 20:00. The employees where not nice, some aggressive. We were hungry and thirsty and there was nothing in the hotel. Some rooms were nice most rooms lookt out of a wall. We never come back !!!!
Marseille isn’t an easy place to visit. We were expecting the intercontinental hotel to be a good place to ease things. It wasn’t the case. Worst came when we had to move to another room, as the next room people left their 2 dogs unattended which made the dogs extremely unrested and consequently they started to bark non-stop The indoor decoration doesn’t match the beautiful magnificent building. Our rooms had unpleasant smell and we felt they were very humid
This is a very lovely property. The views from our room and the terrace were spectacular. The food and service was excellent. I would definitely stay there again and only wish I had been able to stay longer. It was also in a perfect location, which helps.
