Room had a nice view of the street, and while it was nice at first, there were some kinks which I was surprised by. Great location and nice staff. Would definitely come back, solo or as a couple. It had a good price too.

I stayed at Hotel Victory for about three days, and it was OK. Nothing great or really bad to shout out. The room was OK, but there was no door to the toilet (hence if you use the bathroom to do your business, the whole room will reek of the smell thereafter). There are no lifts in this hotel, hence you have to walk up a flight of SPIRAL staircase to wherever your room is. My only concern was the neighbourhood, it is a kind of unsafe with a lot of people who jumped at me when I was there, I have no idea what they are saying, as they were speaking in French. Reception is open 24 hours and they require you to pass them back the hotel key every time you step out of the hotel (not sure why, it was not explained). Overall, the hotel is OK to stay in.

First and foremost, this is not a hotel. Well at least not like any hotel I've stayed at. (Unless we go down the 'boutique' route!) There were two positives from my one night stay here: it is very close to the train station and the check in took less than a minute. My welcome, however, was far from friendly. Having made a rush booking with Booking.com the night before, I made my selection based on price and location to everything Marseille has to offer. This was to be a mistake. I would strongly advise families with children to avoid this hotel. The area is safe-enough but there are some unsavoury characters out on the streets and night time makes it all seem much worse. The rooms themselves are adequate but the room i was in was very dark and dinghy. The walls were painted dark red which made the room feel smaller than it actually was. The worst part of the room were the paper thin walls which meant I could hear every conversion above, below and either side of me. Ultimately, the success of a hotel is measured on its customers' ability to have a sound and comfortable sleep and unfortunately, this fell way short. My rating of 2/5 is based primarily on the location in relation to everything else in Marseille. The station, for a solo traveler, was only 5-10 minutes walk away and the town and port were only 20 minutes walk. However, I did move to another hotel in Marseille the next day (Ibis Styles) in the direction of Olmpique Marseille Football Stadium and also to be closer to the climb up to the Basilica on the top of the hill. That was a lovely room and hotel and for the same price as this nightmare stay. One other thing that didn't reassure me was the unattended front desk. All of the keys to the rooms were left on show behind the desk and every time I passed the desk, the owner and his friends/family were in the back room. I didn't like the fact that anyone could have come and grabbed my room key (which I was asked to leave behind every time I went out.) I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews but I thought that it necessary to warn others of the potential pitfalls. If you must stay here, make it brief. Please don't take children here.

When you look for a place to stay for one night, close to the train station and with breakfast included, it's the place to go. Of course, you cannot have big expectations. Rooms are small and you have stairs to climb... But the breakfast was better than we thought and the bed comfortable enough to sleep. Thanks to the air conditioning, I have to admit. Even if some more organizations wouldn't be too much, but the staff is friendly.

Hotel was ok for money we paid. The only disappointment was we didn't get breakfast we paid for as there is maintenance going on.The Man at the reception asked us first to pay for a hotel and after when we asked where we going to have breakfast he pointed at messy room behind him like do you think you can eat there? There is maintenance going on.No apology nothing..I would appreciate is they say this ahead or leave some croissants at the reception at least .

Nice place very close to the train station and a nice walk to the Vieux Port and other major sights. Not a lot of good eating options nearby, but quite a few markets. Was easily able to extend my stay an extra night to explore more of Marseille.

This hotel was very close to the port and the stores. It was also very close to the train station. But the beding smelled like smoke and there was a lot of noise from the street. It was also a bit warm.

The hotel is near the St Charles train, metro and bus station so is convenient for connections. It is clean and the attached toilet and bath has recently been renovated nicely. The staff are friendly and some speak English. The hotel is on a main street which has a wide range of low priced shops and just down the road is La Canebiere with the Noailles immigrant area, reminiscent of the market areas in major North African towns. Walking down La Canebiere is the Vieux Port area which is more upmarket. While the hotel area seems relatively safe, it is not a really nice area at night and is OK in the day. As many have said, the room is small but what is inconvenient is the lack of shelving so it is very difficult to place things. There is no cupboard only pegs on the bathroom door and the only small box shelf in the room has a sloping top! I had to put my things on the 2cm thick head board which was level. If you want to use the chair, your luggage ends up on the floor which really makes it hard to move in the room. Travelling solo, I had a double bed but I doubt two people could comfortably stay here. With the effort to renovate the bathroom, some thought could have been made to put in more shelving there as well as the room itself.

I had very mixed feelings after one night in this hotel. It is poorly maintained but sheets, bed, bath, etc are clean. Receptionist was friendly but no parking spaces for guests (had to pay parking at "Parking Gambetta" – luckily "only" 15€ for a bit over 12 hours). Wi-fi didn't work in my room and thus had to stand in the corridor/staircase to have signal. The hotel is on a busy street, so it might be somewhat loud. But as I said: comfy bed, clean sheets and floors,... It's a place to sleep and you probably weren't planning it to be anything else than that.

I and my family stayed in Hotel Victory for one night in July on our road trip in South France. I can´t say that we were happy when we arrived, the lobby was not very welcoming, and the man at the desk didn´t speak any English and we know absolutly nothing in France except just to smile :) But he was very friendly so everything went well. I have to say that I was not very exited about the neighborhood but we thought this was all right for one night. And it was - to our surprise. The rooms were small, but nice and clean, comfy beds, clean bed linen, good pillows and we had a good night sleep there. Maybe somethings were a little dated but what can you ask for for such a money. Our bathrooms were also ok, small but clean and nothing like the pictures from other members here on Trip Advisor show. And one thing - the people in the lobby take care of their customers, when one of us went down stairs for a smoke around midnight the man in the lobby went outside with her, not talking to her, not even looking at her, but she felt much more secure with him there. When she went inside, he came after her little later. As I said maybe not the best neighborhood but the staff made us feel safe. For the price 116 euros for 5 persons a night with A/C and a free Wifi I think this was a nice stay at least a good night sleep and nothing to complain about. This is the first time I have stayed in a 1* hotel, and for me it was all right, that´s why I give them a 4 dots out of five, comfy bed, clean bed linen, nice pillows and clean (very small) bathroom - with nice towels.
