Be enchanted by the Carlton Lyon hotel, located on the peninsula. Despite being fully renovated in 2013, it has retained its authenticity and personality, blending contemporary comfort with sophistication. Relax in one of the 80 tastefully decorated rooms or in the cozy atmosphere of the bar. The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the Bellecour metro stop and is the ideal base for exploring Lyon, with its opera house, museums, the St. Jean cathedral and more. Located between the Rhone and Saone rivers, the Carlton Lyon hotel was built in 1894 as a "petit palace" in Lyon. Punctuated by its forged iron balconies, dome and rotundas, its splendid Haussmann facade echoes the refinement of its historical decor. The hotel's "Signature" rooms also highlight artists who have stayed there. Travelers will appreciate immersing themselves in the splendid adornments of the many talents that have visited the hotel.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel has a strategic location to explore nearby sites such as Paul Bucose food market (within 15 mins walk). The room we took is basic but clean and has a great temperature-controlled bathroom which is much appreciated during winter. The bed is very comfortable - just the right amount of firmness and pillows were at the right height. We didn't take the breakfast option as we had to leave early but the staff was eager and energetic to help with luggage and even got us extra water bottles for the road trip ahead. Thanks for kicking start our morning!

We had a 4 night stay in the Carlton & it was everything one hoped for in a hotel. We were greeted by a cheerful & polite chap on reception and everything was clearly explained in good English. Our room - a standard double (210) was clean, well designed and modern. Loved the old lift!
Toiletries were provided and a cut above the usual standard, with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion all available. There was also a useful magnifying mirror. The air con (for which we were grateful during the June heatwave) was effective but never oppressive.
The hotel location was ideal - in between the two rivers and within walking distance of shops, patisseries, cafes and places of interest. We would definitely stay here again if we returned to Lyon. It was only a short walk to the subway, too.
Only downside was the bar and breakfast were both expensive. Breakfast was over 20 E per person. Fine if you want to carb-load ahead of a busy day (there were loads of cakes/breads/cheeses etc) but best to grab a croissant and coffee elsewhere and have a hearty lunch later, like the French do, IMO.

On arrival we were treated very well with a porter whisking our luggage away while we booked into the hotel. They also dealt with the parking of our car. The famous old elevator took us to our suite which was very comfortably outfitted and had fine views overlooking the nearby square. They do not have a restaurant but a very nice hotel bar. The food snacks available on room service were also very good. I had also got about a third off the price on a deal due to the length of our stay(4 nights). The location, which is only 5 minutes walk from the old town, and has many good shops and restaurants/cafes very close by was great. We will be returning .

The hotel is ideally located in the city centre and in walking distance to most of the attractions in the city.
Staff were very helpful and in particular in organising bookings for us at restaurants.
The room was smaller than we expected and the bathroom equated to approximately 50% of the total room area nevertheless it was OK for almost a weeks stay given that we were out and about on most days.
We would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Stayed 3 nights and the hotel's location cannot be beat. We arrived at 12.30 and could check in - great! Our room was on the 3rd floor facing the square. Glad that we had double doors to the small balcony to keep out the noise. The room is small - we couldnt figure out where to put our suitcase. The bathroom is equally tiny but oddly with a rather larger shower. The bed was comfy but it was very warm at night - we had the air conditioning set at 5C but it was still extremely warm in the room. Very much appreciated the bottles of evian every day and housekeeping was good..also appreciated the valet parking whch was a great price at 29 euro per night (traffic and parking in lyon is a nightmare/expensive). Staff was helpful and courteous. For the location and overall offering, i can definitely recommend staying here.

The Hotel is centrally located and close to all major sights but I’m afraid that after that it’s a bit of a let down. The rooms are very small and the hotel itself just feels incredibly cramped! The weekend Mr H and I were there we had to wait for a table for a breakfast and found food wasn’t often replenished or was just missing, service was a little haphazard. The bar area is also very small however the staff here were wonderful and remembered our order each time we sat for a pre dinner drink. I also found on one day I was called twice and my room door opened twice when I had come back from a long morning walking the sights and had wanted to take a nap.. no nap for me! It was a mix up with the booking and then wanting to fill the mini bar. Yes I should have put a do not disturb sign out but it was after 2pm and the room had already been made up so didn’t think I would have needed to!

This hotel was a lovely surprise. We were very correctly checked in and got a lovely, spacious room with a private balcony overlooking one of the lovely squares of Lyon. We chose to have breakfast served in the room and the meal was enjoyed on the balcony.
Enjoyed a drink in the lovely hotel bar.

We spent 2 nights at the Carlton in May as a couple. We come to Lyon once a year for a weekend and as we do not have a 'regular' hotel yet, we decided to give this one a chance.
The location of the hotel is excellent, next to the main shopping street, place bellecour, bridges on either side for crossing the river into old town, the opera etc, and on a quieter side street.
We had a room on the 4th floor, which was on the small side. We found the decor dated in the predominantly red and white colour scheme (we saw the pictures beforehand but it looked worse in reality). The room was stuffy during the night, whilst the aircon was noisy and useless, even when turned on at max and on the lowest temperature, so we got 2 very poor nights of sleep during our stay. The bathroom was a good size, and adequate but the shower water pressure was far too low (and bathtub shower not shower cabin).
The complementary daily water bottles (1 evian 1 badoit) were welcome.
We did not opt for the breakfast, which was served on the 1st floor, but were surprised that in the morning the strong, unpleasant, smell of food reached our 4th (top) floor.
The elevator, which is in an old deco style, whilst pretty, was totally inefficient, taking a lot of time to move up and down floors meaning we had to queue sometimes just to enter + completely overused, including by staff carrying food and laundry - which is inappropriate that there is no service elevator.
The reception and staff, whilst polite, were not extremely welcoming and could be a little more warm and smiling in welcoming guests. When we asked if public transport is complementary for hotel guests/tourists, as it is in our country (Switzerland) and some other European capitals, the receptionist was rude and dismissive.
Overall, we enjoyed the location the most, otherwise we shall be looking for a different 'regular' hotel for our frequent visits to Lyon, as I am sure there are many other better options.

First time in Lyon and first time to travel again since the pandemic. We were so excited and thrilled with the experience; it was a 4hr drive from Switzerland to the Hotel itself. It all went well. Upon arriving at the hotel, the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. He asked how was our trip to the hotel and offered to help us with our check-in. He also helped us with our luggage and dealt with us at the reception. We parked in front & he informed us that they will bring the car into a garage & that his colleague will take care of it. After the check-in we got our keys & he also offered us the map of Lyon. When asked about restaurants he happily gave us some tips & he even booked us in one of the bouchon in the square and one of the restaurants in the old town.
The room was clean, & we chose to not have the daily cleaning for me it was all because of the covid although they were not checking the vax papers. Breakfast was good! The service was very friendly & accommodating; but the downside was the breakfast room was a bit cramped; & ventilation could have been better.
We stayed for 4 days & we enjoyed it very much, all the sites are within the walking distance of the hotel.
Just some comments with the regards to the room, the shower was a bit of a challenge because it was a bit high and when its wet it was a bit slippery so you just need to be careful.
