Hotel Mercure Munich Altstadt earns rave reviews for its prime central location, with guests appreciating the easy access to historical sites and Marienplatz. The accommodations are celebrated for their cleanliness and comfort; however, some guests find the rooms to be on the smaller side. Reviewers frequently commend the hotel's service, particularly noting the friendly staff and the complimentary breakfast with all-day coffee. While opinions on value vary, the majority of guests feel the hotel offers a good balance of comfort and cost. The hotel is very reasonably priced, suitable for the traveller on a budget, but nevertheless has all the basics a traveller requires. The rooms are clean and functional. I particularly appreciated the new bench-style design along the wall in the room, where you could conveniently place both suitcases. This is a great invention that most luxury hotels should copy! The hotel provides an excellent buffet breakfast. All the staff, from the front office to the cleaning staff to the restaurant staff, were friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, just a five to ten minute walk from the Marienplatz, being the main square in old Munich. There are numerous sites, museums, art galleries, restaurants, and beer halls all within walking distance. One especially -appreciated perk is the two free beers provided in the room's minibar fridge! This was my fourth time visiting the Hotel Mercure Munich Altstadt, and I will certainly return to it on my next visit to Munich.

In a large city like Munich, the hotel is perfectly located, in an area that allows you to eat all day from 12 noon to 00.00 am in restaurants (such as the Hofbrauhaus brewery) and with shops open until 7.30 pm. Next to Marienplatz, in the quiet neighborhood of Altstadt, with direct connections to trains and subways of the city that are not necessary for a monumental visit to the Residenz and its gardens, the church of the theatines, that of San Juan Nepomuceno, the Cathedral, the City Hall or Odeon Platz. Train line S8 (yellow) and line S1 (blue) to the airport (Flughafen), S8 is faster than S1. It is a three star hotel with extreme cleanliness, hearty breakfast and, having no cafeteria, they leave the breakfast room open throughout the day for free coffee and infusions to the clientele. Rooms a little small but very well kept, bright and soundproof and with minibar (given three drinks: beer, apple juice and mineral water); minimal bathrooms but with all amenities. It is difficult to find in the city that they speak English and almost impossible someone who speaks Spanish, the receptionist Angelica, native of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), provides with extreme attention, kindness and care all the information to the Spanish-speaking clientele, solving even the smallest details to make their stay pleasant. She's a premium Pro. Thank you Angelica.

Stayed here in 2 rooms for 2 nights to visit the Christmas markets. The hotel is a very short walk from Marienplatz station, and easily walkable from Hauptbahnhof station too. Very well-located. The rooms were basic but functional and seemed clean.
However, the cleaners disturbed us on both mornings. First morning, they knocked loudly on both doors when we were still asleep at 8am. So the next night we put the Do Not Disturb sign on both doors to avoid this. The next morning, they ignored the signs and knocked again - one of our rooms had not been locked overnight and the cleaners came into the room while we were still in bed. Extremely unhappy with this - I complained to the front desk when we checked out - they apologised but said the cleaners were separate to the hotel(?!). Hopefully they have now been told what a Do Not Disturb sign means.
Apart from that, the breakfast was fine - can get quite busy but plenty of food to choose from. Room was not that quiet but understandable as centrally located.

The hotel is really well located just a 5 minute walk from Marienplatz. It's well signposted and easy to find. I was greeted warmly on arrival, and was given a full explanation of all the hotel amenities and services. I booked a single room which wasn't massive, but it served me well as I was only really there at night. The bed was large, for a single, and was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in (apart from my own bed at home). The bathroom was small but functional, the shower easy to operate, nice and hot, and water pressure was good. My room had a minibar with a small selection of drinks - all of which were free. I liked the fact that the restaurant stayed open late so that you could help yourself to tea and coffee. Breakfast hours were generous - 6.30am to 10.30am - and there was a vast array of food available. I loved the orange juice machine that made juice from real oranges while you wait - nice touch! My only small peeve was the fact that while there was a kettle in the room there were very little items there with which to make a cup of tea or coffee, but it wasn't a big deal. I liked this hotel alot, would recommend, and would definitely stay again.

This is a good hotel in a good location and about a 15 euro taxi from the train station. We had a comfort room which has a small sitting area with seating for about 4 people. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choices The fridge was stocked with two waters, two beers, an apple juice and a coke included in the room rate. We were able to walk to subway station in about 6 minutes we were about a 20 minute walk from the Octoberfest. There are numerous restaurants in the area and tons of shopping if that is something that appeals to you. We would stay here again. Our only criticism is the lack of counter space for toiletries.

Had two reservations - one for our first week in Munich and the other for our one night return from Oberammergau before flying home. Our full week stay was a lovely double room with large tv and complimentary refrigerated beverages. Rooms were quickly made up each day and the staff was delightfully friendly and helpful. Rooms have small personal safes, refrigerators, room darkening curtains and mechanical shades. Loved the hardwood-style floors (no carpet!) for added cleanliness. The location is less than a block from the pedestrian plaza leading to either Marienplatz or Karlplatz with easy access to buses, subway and trams. (Coming from the plaza, just turn down the short street by Five Guys Burgers and you will see the hotel). It is on the corner of 2 intersecting one-way streets so traffic going past the hotel can sometimes be loud or annoying in the middle of the night.
Our return stay for one night found us in a somewhat smaller room with smaller tv but
the same level of cleanliness and comfort.
An added bonus is the lovely buffet breakfast with a wide assortment of fresh fruit, cereals, breads, croissants, rolls, pastries, eggs, meats and cheeses. Beverages included fresh juices, coffee and tea and we were invited to visit the dining room later in the afternoon if we wanted an extra cup. It was always a pleasure to see our breakfast hostess each morning who always had a smile (despite her mask) and a nice word to send us on our way. All in all, a very good experience.

Excellent hotel. The location is great, with comfortable and well-equipped rooms, with USB sockets of different types, towel dryer in the bathroom, etc.
The staff is quick and kind, with a quick check-in.

A good breakfast with lots of options.
It is a network hotel, but it is extremely complete. It's very worth it.

We ordered a room with a queen sized bed. We were "upgraded" for unknown reasons to a suite. When we finally got ready for bed, we discovered that the 2 beds in the bedroom were each too small for 2 people -- measured at 48 to 50 inches, not 60 inches. The suite came with a kitchen, but no dish towels, no place to dry dishes, no napkins, ie, very poorly equipped. Certainly not worth the price of nearly $300 a night.

Dear Margaretkn, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Hotel Mercure München Altstadt. We appreciate your feedback on your complimentary upgrade to our Superior Suite and regret that you found the 2 queen beds too small for two people and that the kitchen in your suite was not adequately equipped. At Hotel Mercure we always strive to provide you with a pleasant stay and great service, so this is certainly not what we intended. We hope you will consider staying with us in the future so we can make it up to you. Best regards from Munich, Mersiha DURGUTOVIC

This hotel is located in the old city of Munich, and it is within walking distance to all of the major sites, as well as public transportation (U-bahn, S-bahn and trams). My wife and I stayed in one of the "junior suites" on the top floor, and the room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is absolutely terrific. I'd stay there again without hesitation.

Well-located, clean, and well-run hotel near public transit and within walking distance of a number of key sites. The breakfast has a lot of items to choose from and the breakfast room is pleasant. Very professional staff. The rooms are small and simple, and the overall vibe is traditional. There is no bar, and the small lobby consists of a few benches and a vending machine. There is a small refrigerator in the room stocked with free beer, soda, and water. Not much street noise, but housekeeping does some very assertive hallway vacuuming starting right at 8am. A very solid, if slightly unsexy choice.

Check with hotel to see if they are still offering the unlimited Germany-wide transportation pass for buses, trams, trains, metrorail, etc. We visited in June and paid 9 euros pp good on all transit for the entire month!!! There is a train that will bring you directly to and from the airport; you can use the nearby Marienplatz station or the one near the fountain.
