We stayed here for one night, on our way from The Netherlands to Croatia, It is a little way outside Passau up a steep hill but the views are amazing.. we eat in the restaurant in the evening the meal was delicious and the staff very pleasant and helpful. Our room was in a separate annex but was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was more than adequate .. Good Value for money

Yes, this hotel is in Salzweg a few kilometres outside Passau off route 12. It is rustic, charming with good sized clean rooms and an excellent dining room with a good menu. The staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. The lady in charge Susan is a delight, has excellent English and looked after my wife and I very well indeed. There is ample parking and a number 2 City Bus stop is a five minute walk from the hotel - 3 euros return. It is clear a lot of locals use the restaurant which is a good sign. On the Saturday of our stay there was music and singing which was a joy to listen to. This was our first visit to the Bergwald but hopefull not our last.

The hotel is located a bit remote, but it has it's advantages. The garden is great for relaxing after a day's riding/driving and the service is good. The menue has just about everything you need and the staff is readily available with help when needed. But you will need to ride a bus if you want to get into town. The breakfast buffet is well stocked too.

An ok little place, very basic but also reasonably priced. Ample parking, which is good, but to describe this as being "in Passau" is quite a liberal understanding of geography. By car it took us probably about 10-15min to drive into the city centre. If that is not an issue for you, then this is a good place to stay. I have to stay the waitress in the evening (who also does the hotel checkin....talk about staff efficiency...) was very nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Fork out a few extra euros for the comfort room, because their standard rooms are hostel-standard.

The hotel is in Salzweg, a small village in the hills just out of Passau. It's a lovely area and there are some attractive towns nearby. The staff were very helpful, but we had some difficulty with language here. The room was spacious and comfortable and there is a decent restaurant in the hotel - but we also found a restaurant in a nearby town on the second night. On the down side: the room smelt a bit musty when we arrived, but opening the window for a while fixed this. One bedside lamp didn't work and there was nowhere to plug in the desk light, but we weren't that bothered so we didn't complain about this. There is internet but a charge applies. The room was a little cold and there is no elevator so we had to carry our suitcases upstairs. Again, no big deal for us. Not the best place on our trip but still quite comfortable for a couple of nights.
