We stayed at the Askanischer Hof on the recommendation of some old friends who had stayed here on their last trip to Berlin. I chose it over the place my wife and I had stayed previously for three reasons: (1) my friends' recommendation; (2) the location appeared to be better than that of the place we stayed before; and (3)...

My wife and I stayed here during a recent trip to Berlin. This is a charming old place, reminiscent of the Kaiser Wilhelm era. The room we had was very large and comfortable, overlooking the Kurfurstendamm. Noise, however, wasn't a problem. The bed was very good. Staff were helpful and obliging. The location is just the best, with innumerable excellent...

If you want to experience what Berlin was like in the 20's.....come here. It's a little strange, but fantastic. Breakfast is lovely, rooms can be large, and the staff are friendly. In an elegant, but not hip, neighborhood. We will only stay here! It's unique.

This hotel is not only the best place I’ve stayed in Europe, it’s the best place I’ve stayed anywhere. Seriously. This hotel is awesome. Located on the historical street, Kurfurstendamm, this circa 1910 hotel is old and beautiful, quaint and comfortable. Each room is spacious and unique, with high ceilings, art deco and vintage decor, and phenomenal views. The staff...

Me and my husband stayed here for 3 nights in July, 2012. We had planned to stay at some arty place, so it wasn't our first choice in any way - but we didn't know that Berlin Fashionweek entered the city at the same time as we were going there. We still felt this was more us than any modern...

Selected this hotel from the Tripadvisor reviews and its location as last time I was in Berlin was about 3-4 weeks after the wall came down and Ku'damm was the centre of everything. Wondered if we had made a mistake by being so far from many of the tourist sights, but in fact it was a good location - quiet...

We stayed here for the second time in June this year. This hotel is located on Kudamm and very convenient for shops and transport. The rooms are very retro and well furnished and cosy. Both rooms we have stayed in have been large and overlooked the Kudamm. The welcome from the staff is warm and service attentive. Breakfast is served...

It's not easy to find an hotel of charm in Berlin, but Askanischer Hof is one of the most charming hotels we ever stayed at. It's one of the oldest hotels in Berlin that has survived two world wars, however - this doesn't mean it's outdated. It rather a pension than hotel - it occupies first floor of the regular...

If you get a room off the street, Wi-Fi will not reach you with an iPad or iPod. I had sit in the lobby anytime I needed access. I just wanted to let others know, as that feature is very important to me. Also, unless you are into large name brand shopping (Gucci, etc) there are very limited shopping options...

It has a couple of great features that you can spot among great hotels: very friendly and helpful staff, charming atmosphere, well-conserved antique furniture. We got a great room, with a balcony to the front street, which was a lovely touch. Somehow it's a bit of a hidden gem, but in the other hand it feels as if it could...

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
