Loved my stay here at the Monjibou. The rooms are cozy (yes small), clean, quiet, and the beds are comfortable. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is worth every bit of the 15Euro charge. Great variety and delicious! The best croissants. Ever.
Neighborhood is fantastic, filled...More
Visited the Mon Bijou hotel the first weekend in October. Had arranged a private transfer from the airport and transfer took just under an hour to get to the hotel. We were able to check in immediately. I know the hotel only has a small...More
Perfect situation for one of the most intriguing areas of Berlin. Very comfortable and the receptionist went out of her way to be helpful. Excellent breakfast. Not the cheapest but well worth it. Close to the Hackische Höfe, Nikolaiviertel and the TV Tower. Great for...More

The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

It is within walking distance to museum island and Alexanderplatz, and it would be around a 30 minute walk to Branderburg Gate. But there is an S-Bahn station just round the corner and you can get to all the major locations in minutes. There is also a tram station literally next door. The area is nice, with plenty of bars and restaurants close by.

Go to the Hackescher Markt S-bahn station (out the hotel, turn left, then left again before the viaduct, station entrance on the right. Buy a single ticket and go up to the platform and validate. Ride the S-bahn to the Hbf then go out the main entrance (the station and its platforms are behind you, if you've walked under them you're going the wrong way). Cross the main road to the bus stop and pick up the TXL express bus (says TXL on it) and ride to the airport. Your ticket is valid for all this travel. Hit it right and it's half an hour of a trip. A single zone AB ticket covers the whole trip: €2.70.
