very clean and pretty little hotel/pension. comfy bed, pillows and comforter. big windows and high ceilings and 1920-ish furniture. staff very nice and location also. i read some people complaining about dirtiness and that the entrance was scruffy and that the hotel was located on the 2nd floor. none of that bothered me. in fact i think the stair case... We found this on a last minute decision and loved everything, from the quirky room, to the friendly staff and fantastic breakfast options.

I am a writer from the US, have stayed twice and I plan to return when I am in Berlin again. The rooms are spotless, the beds comfy with feather duvets and pillows, the wood furniture is from the period the hotel was built, and for a little more money you can get a large room with views over the... I chose Pension Funk because I wanted to stay in a place that wasn't like a typical American hotel. There are many of those in Berlin, and Pension Funk represents the opposite. It's decor pays homage to Asta Nielsen, the former resident of this large apartment, who was a 1920's silent film star. While this isn't a fancy hotel, it's... More

The hotel is in a great location and the staff if very helpful. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and it is a great value for a single traveler. The hotel is very interesting and cozy with a beautiful breakfast room and garden view. The breakfast was excellent.

We stayed for 4 nights in mid-summer at Pension Funk in room 15 across from the breakfast room. We had large windows facing the interior court. Our room was spacious, clean, and the ceilings in the hotel are about 15' high. Our stay was quiet for being just a few blocks from zoo train station. The staff was polite and... More

A heat wave made the room almost unbearable. It's time for the owners to start installing up-to-date windows so that guests can at least get some air without inviting every bug in the neighborhood in for a nibble. With the very old windows wide open for circulation, privacy disappeared. One could see and be seen quite easily. A small room... More

My bf and I stayed there for I think 4 nights. It's a really fantastic hotel, all decorated in Belle époque style (if uneducated people get confused between this and scruffiness then it's there problem!) It's very well located in West Berlin in a really lovely, safe area, lit a minute away from the tube station and 2 min from... More

Stayed 3 nights in this charming Pension in the centre of Berlin, sharing with friends. The hotel feels like a large gracious apartment from a bygone era. It is utterly charming- the decor is authentic down to the aged telephone and antiques throughout (although thankfully the bathroom was modern, if a bit small). One can feel the history all around... My wife and I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights. The staff was very friendly throughout our stay. It has the feel of a large home, with winding hallways and high ceilings. Our room was down several halls, which provided us much privacy (I think it was room 29). It was quiet, although that may have been because of... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
