After a few weeks of staying to hotels, my wife and i welcomed a self contained apartment for our stay in berlin. The apartment was quite spacious and had everything we needed. Located nearby were a couple of supermarkets, cafes, bars and a metro stop just up the road to get us into the city. The apartment included free WiFi...

Take the subway to Rosa Luxembourg and it's only a block and a half to this very functional Berlin apartment-home, next to the White Trash Fast Food cafe. The place is utilitarian but not grim. We had no complaints: adequate heat in a very cold spell, good location and friendly, English-speaking staff. I mention the directions because it was very...

OTA Apartments are a great alternative to hotels in Berlin. especially when travelling in a group of two or more, you can basically get a larger accomodation than most hotels for a much more reasonable price. The location is very good, close to all the shops, restaurants and galleries of Mitte. Our apartment for two people was very spacious with...

I was attending a conference in Berlin, and a colleague had recommended finding a place in the Mitte as it was a good area for restaurants, clubs, etc. Old Town Apartments was very helpful and promptly replied to my inquiry about openings. The apartment was a studio on the third floor (no lift, but this is not out of the...

Its in an great location near Bars, shops and only 2 mins walk from the Rosa-Luxemburg Platz U bahn station. The area is safe and quite a busy one. The apartment was huge with a...

If you desire independence and a home-like atmosphere when visiting Berlin, Old Town Apartments could be the perfect choice. After a whole week spent in two of their apartments (both of them located in the central area, also very close to metro & bus stations), we are still impressed by their incredible promptitude in finding the right accommodation for the...

My friends and I stayed in Berlin for about a week and we made OTA our base there. OTA was in Central East Berlin and just a few train stations from the main station (Hauptbahnhof). From there, it was a short stroll to Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt, and a short train ride to other major sites in Berlin. The apartments...

The only reason I didn't give this place and excellent is that we had our apartment on the 4th floor and no elevator/lift. Our apartment (Von Weber II) was huge, we could have slept 9 total in this one apartment. Location is wonderful, U/S Bahn one block away; markets 100-300 meter walk. Several cafes within a 5 minute walk. We...

We liked the idea of an apartment rather than a hotel and it was everything we'd hoped for. We stayed in the block on Schoenhauser Allee. We didn't arrive until 23:15 but the person who met us was cheerful and helpful. The apartment was simply furnished but perfectly adequate and very clean and comfortable. The room faced an inner courtyard...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
