Travellers' Choice
Hotel ZOE is the face of a new era. Urban, sexy and approachable. Not far from Hackescher Markt and within walking distance of Monbijou Park, the hotel has taken on the geographical heritage of what was formerly the summer palace at Monbijou. Where else could you experience Berlin with greater desire and passion?

Perfect location with just a few minutes walk from the station and short stroll to the river. Nice cafes, bars and restaurants are available around. Friendly staff, quiet room (4th floor, backside) and nice bar downstairs. Just one thing I don't understand in Germany: smoking inside : ) That is weird.

We just left the hotel with sadness and disappointment. We paid for an early bird room 550€ in December 2019. Because of the covid situation we couldn’t come back to Berlin before august 2021. Despite of the situation, when we had to changed the dates of our coming for the first time (may 2020 to august 2020), the hotel manager told me that first we can’t be refunded of what we paid and secondly that we will be overcharged of 190€. I was surprised of this new rate and called the hotel several times but they were clear : because of the new dates and because of a big event in august, they had to charge us. Finally, we couldn’t come because there were no flight. We changed our coming dates 2 times again (no flight) until we managed to find a flight and time availabilities. The price the hotel gave me never changed : 730€ for 4 nights whatever the period (may 2021, august 2021). We would have canceled and try to come back later but it meant losing 550€. We finally arrived at the hotel on 25 august and we were asked to pay the overcharges. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been possible to have a room. We were asked to talk to the manager on the morning to have explanations if we weren’t satisfied, We arrived in a bigger room than expected but also dirtier (snicker packaging on the floor, dust and sticky ground floor). I talked to the manager in the morning but she was inflexible : the price is daily calculated on room availabilities and period. What I don’t understand is that we were charged the same amount in August 2020, May 2021 than in August 2021. Which is quite strange … without forgetting that we are loyal customers since at least 6 years. The manager didn’t mind and told me this is how it is and ended the conversation. This is strange because we looked at the room prices before coming and they were charged 65€/night We didn’t ask for so much : some apologizes, a small refund or even free breakfast but nothing. This is the first and o my hotel who acted like this on covid period : we never were overcharged or not refunded because of this pandemic troubles. In addition, we noticed that the level has lowered since the first time we came : the staff doesn’t even greet the customers (they barely look at you when you enter or leave the hotel) and the rooms became old, damaged and poorly lightened. You left our trust and we will never come back.

Would recommend this hotel because it's situated in a lively district for evening drinks and restaurants, and very near to the museums island. Secure private parking was also a requisite, great. The room was impeccable, modern and spacious, very quiet and comfortable. Look out for special deals on booking.com, otherwise it's quite expensive. Buffet breakfast was delicious. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Wonderful hotel, in a wonderful place, with many shops, bars, restaurant. Great value for money. Big and spacious room, very clean, big bathroom. We were 4: 2 adults and 2 children One double room and one big sofa bed. Despite it was facing the street with a tram line, it was very quite. Wonderful rooftop bar with a spectacular view on Berlin (TV Tower, Dom, Synagogue) Staff were excellent.

Having stayed at the Amano hotel outside Central Station Mitte, we decided to try their sister hotel, the Zoë at Hackescher Markt, due to its more central location. We had read previous reviews stating that the air con wasn’t working. Having stayed throughout Berlin’s 36 degree heatwave, I can now confirm this to be true. The aircon system threw out nothing more than a tepid breeze, which wasn’t ideal considering it was still 30 degrees at 2am. It was absolutely stifling at night and my husband struggled to sleep for the 4 night duration of our stay. There was no bottled water or a single drink making facility in our room - not even a glass! The room was also a little dark - with blackout curtains AND blackout voiles in the windows. We were asked to book breakfast a day in advance; not a problem in theory, but also not always convenient to have to commit to a 30 minute time slot when we’d had a spontaneous late night, as happens on holiday. The breakfast was average at best, and also way overpriced. Now we understand that due to Covid, lots of businesses are running with skeleton staff or working under more difficult and stressful environments. However, the staff were unhelpful and disinterested when listening to our queries. Such a shame but we won’t be back.
