We got a very nice train from the airport straight to the Hauptbahnhof and the Hotel is on the corner opposite, very convenient. When we arrived off the train we were very early but they let us check in

Sorry. Can't confirm this as I Did not need such a service but I too spent a day in Berlin and I'm sure that would be ok. The staff were most friendly for my visit and most hotels have some sort of holding room for bags. Train to Berlin was 1hr 40 mins on ICE for me. U55 is the short underground train to Brandenbrg Gate if you are tourist although it's easily walkable. Hope that helps!!
