Travellers' Choice
Surrounded by pines, the Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro stands atop Mount Gibralfaro opposite the Alcazaba (Citadel), with views of the bay and city of Malaga from a unique perspective. The common areas, guest rooms and rooftop swimming pool offer beautiful views of the town and sea. Here you will enjoy traditional Andalusian culinary offerings, including exquisite Málaga-style fried fish. In Málaga, you won't want to miss the Pablo Ruíz Picasso Foundation Birthplace Museum, where you will discover more than 230 works by the painter. The hotel, built out of stone next to Gibralfaro Castle, is the ideal location for visiting the city and enjoying sports such as golf and tennis at the nearby Parador del Golf. Málaga and its surrounding area are filled with light and beauty, offering the perfect vantage point overlooking the Mediterranean, a wonderful experience in which warm temperatures and the joy of Andalusia are assured.

The views are worth it, considering there is no easy way up there on foot. The aged interior reminds me of the 80s, one of my favourite decades. The amount of good reviews this under-average hotel receives fills me with awe and optimism for my fellow humans. Describing the hotel as in the centre really expanded my understanding of the word. If there were a hotel room on Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, it would be very, very central, yet really difficult to get to. This hotel is that room! The booking process does not warn you that you are very unlikely to get a double bed (being presented as a preference) and on arrival the staff will stare at you and your partner passive aggressively until you upgrade to a superior room for 60 euro. We were told only 3 standard rooms have double beds. Good luck winning yours. You are very likely to pay extra for this 'preference'. Additionally, they look surprised that you insist on sleeping together and that it's even a problem. Then, when raising this with the manager, you will be marked and will be unlikely to be served within 45 minutes at the bar, especially if you are not considered local. The staff was plain rude. This is a pity. I do speak Spanish and I am conscious to try and make an effort and adapt to Spanish culture, but I have never felt more like a guiri in Spain than at the Parador in Málaga.

The parador has two types of rooms. The standard rooms, of which there are two beds and a double bed, and it is the one that you reserved and that you can choose a bed preference but it is not possible to confirm (and we didnt confirm you) it because, sometimes, the requests are greater than the actual stock. Superior rooms containing bed king siza 2x2 (all of them), special welcome items, coffee and tea machine, larger rooms with better views, better location, bathrobes, etc. This type of room, with all the previous accessories, is what our reception offered you with the sole objective of satisfying you. But you decide. We would like to thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience in the Parador. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is very important to us. Wishing to recieve you again, that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you. Sincerly,

Fabulous hilltop views of Málaga city and port. Rooms large, clean, balcony with table and chairs. Very comfortable beds, good quality bedding. Free outside parking. No tea/coffee facilities in bedrooms however. Short taxi ride to city centre.

Located 20' walk from downtown Malaga - quiet location but the walk is nicely physical. welcome was OK - not super friendly but efficient. Very nice room with great view on Malaga from above. Quiet but still close enough to feel the vibrations of the city. Large beds - hard mattresses - too soft pillows - sleep quality was OK but not great. We missed airco in the room - there was ventilation but no cooling - wander how this must feel in summer :) Bathroom is nice but could use some renovation. Breakfast was excellent - and good COVID-19 measures displayed and enforced Check out was efficient and friendly. Overall nice stay

Having emailed the hotel in advance to advise them of our forthcoming celebratory visit I was very disappointed not to receive an acknowledgement of my email or to receive the champagne I ordered to be delivered to the room and added to the bill. This was to be a surprise for my wife.Having stayed at Granada and Nerja Paradors this summer where responses to my emails were efficiently responded to ,this was a real disappointment. Our room had a fabulous view but on arrival we found a bed settee was still extended so it was down to us to correct this and rearrange the room.No attention to the nature of the reservation for two people obviously. Covid measures are very good at the Paradors which was why we opted to stay at one to celebrate. However we noticed a laxity creeping in unlike at other Paradors. To have hand gel at the entrance to the restaurant not part way in , similarly at the cafe/ bar would prevent people walking in without using it,often inadvertently. This was rigorously enforced at the other Paradors. The restaurant and bar food was good but not exceptional with sone being expensive for the quality and quantity delivered. My wife very much enjoyed the tempura aubergines and we both enjoyed the chicken.Unfortunately my sea bass had not been properly deboned and one I found was dangerously large.I did advise the staff of this as I left quite a lot of fish uneaten I cook fish regularly and am fastidious about this. Staff are willing, views are delightful but would we visit again ? Sadly highly unlikely given our recent experience.

Dear Rob We have been collecting information about the comments you have made for two days. Finally, we have located your reservation through Expedia where we have been able to verify that your reservation was made for 2 adults and 1 child. Hence the open sofa bed. On the other hand, if you read our answer, please send us the champagne request email in the room because we have not located any request. For us, it is important to know these requests because they increase our sales now more than ever. We regret this misunderstanding and we trust that your next visit will go according to plan. Regards.

We stayed in 13 Paradores in the past 15 years or so and I can certainly confirm this one is by far the best one when it comes to service and willingness to please the clients. Perfect location, bright room with big terrace, great pool, good breakfast and perfect staff attitude. Instructions to comply with covid19 were clearly explained and the experience was very smooth. One last remark : as in any other Parrador, why does the room come with no Nespresso machine ? It has become a standard device and even 3* properties have instant coffee machines in their rooms.
