Loved our stay at Aurea Washington Irving. We were in Granada to see the Alhambra (which was just beautiful) and you really can’t beat the location. We had a lovely, good sized room. Service was good. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

From the ice tea at the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the attentiveness and friendliness of staff could not have been better. We felt welcomed and very well looked after in every way. The location, it almost goes without saying, is spectacular, just a few steps away from the entrance to the Alhambra. In addition, it's only a 12-15 minute walk into the city centre, and a lovely walk at that. if you don't fancy the walk, then the buses run very regularly, and cost only 40 cents each way. The breakfast selection was huge - all excellent quality - and although we didn't try the restaurant, the food in the Lobby Bar was excellent. The room was spacious and well-appointed, with everything you'd expect from a five star hotel. We'll be recommending the Washington Irvine to everyone we know.

We were glad we chose Washington Irving hotel for our stay in Granada. It is right opposite the Alhambra, which was the main reason we came to Granada, so after spending a whole day there was great to be able to walk back across the road to the hotel. Was a beautiful 15 min downhill walk to the Abaicin district, across the Darro river, following the Cuesta del Rey Chico path between the Alhambra & the Generalife gardens. Hotel up on hill but excellent bus service from the city centre if you are worried about walking back up the hill. Recommend the tasting menu for dinner at the hotel's restaurant "Garnata" - food food was superb & service from Carlos & colleagues excellent. Staff at front desk extremely helpful & friendly.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights, celebrating his birthday. We initially stayed in a double room with a view to the Alhambra. The room was quite small and the view was disappointing as you can hardly see anything and the road can be quite noisy. However, the second night we spent at a Deluxe room overlooking the back patio. It was beautiful, spacious, clean and very quiet. We loved it and will recommend the bigger room. They have treated my husband to a bottle of Cava and cake which was a nice touch. The hotel is in a fantastic location if you visit the Alhambra. We spent the whole day at the stunning Alhambra (10.00-20.00) and just popped in the middle of the day to have lunch and refresh ourselves at the hotel. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The hotel is modern and tastefully decorated. The location could not be better as it is only about 200 meters from the entrance to Al Hamra. Of course, for the rest of the sights you are always walking up and down. But that's the charm of Granda. We were greeted and accompanied in a friendly manner by the young gentleman who also parked the car for us. We were well informed about everything worth knowing and felt totally comfortable. The recommendation for a flamengo show in Sacromonte (Venta el Gallo) turned out to be a hit. We would come back here anytime.

We were so pleased with our stay here. We were greeted with a cool cup of tea, provided with excellent information about the hotel and suggestions for what to do (in addition to Alhambra). The room was spacious and very comfortable. The pool area is lovely and a nice place to relax. We walked to town-down a long hill and decided to take a cab back. You can also take a bus from town, which we did on another occasion. It is very close to Alhambra, which is why we initially booked this hotel. Of note, is the extremely helpful front desk staff. We were scheduled to pick up a rental car, and when we arrived at the rental place, it was closed-even though we received confirmation of our booking. Not knowing what to do on a Sunday morning and needing to get to Seville, we went back to the hotel. The person at the desk (we did not get her name) called multiple car rentals, checked trains and buses to Seville. Ultimately, we took a bus. It's service like this that makes this a 5 star hotel.

I am conflicted about his 5-star hotel. But instead of starting with complaints, let me list the good things first. Location: when visiting major European cities I tend to stay in neighborhoods that are as central as possible, but this time I chose a hotel that’s well away from the center. When I first checked in, I was a bit apprehensive, but after a few days, I was glad I made this choice. By far, Granada’s main attraction is the Alhambra. There are other sites, but the Alhambra should clearly take up most of the visitor’s time and attention. It’s not just the main visit to the Nasrid palaces, it’s also very satisfying to return again and again to the surrounding areas, early in the morning, at sundown, etc. So it’s been a boon that this hotel is within short walking distances to the Alhambra two entrances. As for the city center, the hotel is actually not that far from it (the Plaza SantaAna), but things are a bit complicated as the hotel is on a hill. Depending on one’s physical condition and especially the weather, trudging up and down that hill might be a chore for some. But there are two bus lines that connect this hotel and the Alhambra to the Plaza Isabel la Católica, which is near the Plaza Santa Ana. They run quite often and cost 1.4 euro one way. Physical plant: Although the hotel has been around for a long time, the current building is clearly brand new and quite luxurious. The common areas are spacious and quite deluxe. There’s even a small pool on the top floor with nice views of the surrounding areas. While my room was at first sight quite luxurious, it does suffer from a few design defects. There are two sinks but they are tiny. I have cook pots that are bigger. The toilet is smooshed up against the wall, I’m not a big guy but I wonder how a 6-foot person would use it. The shower, while enclosed, leaks rather badly. That said, the room was comfortable enough for my 6-day stay. Food: The hotel’s restaurant is actually quite good. I had lunch there the first day. The food was simply but well prepared and the ingredients were of high quality. Their pork entrecôte was the best one I have had in Spain so far. The breakfast was rather middling, especially for a 5-star hotel, but it’s adequate. There was plenty of vegetables and fruits, and the croissants were pretty good. As the reader may already guess, it must be the service that’s lacking. And indeed, it’s sorely lacking. But for the sake of fairness, I want to say first that for some service I requested, the hotel did a good job. When I first arrived, I asked for two restaurant reservations, one of which was a bit tricky. The front desk was able to get them done without a hitch. I also had some shirts laundered and that was done well. Now for the failures. When I first checked in, there was no pen, no note pad, and no tissue in the room! Even much lesser hotels routinely provide these items. I tried to call the front desk but the phone didn’t work so I had to walk all the way to the lobby. Then twice room service was delivered without me ever asking. The second time it happened, I was not even in my room. Someone from the hotel called on my mobile phone asking whether I had ordered room service. Then on another occasion, the front desk called to ask if I had called them! Finally, on my last night, at 11 PM someone from the hotel knocked at my door asking if I had locked myself out of the room safe! It seemed probable that all these troubles were due to the phone that was replaced when I first checked in. What’s astounding is that NO ONE at the hotel had any inkling about this. When I paid my bill, they even claimed I had incurred some room service fees! When I returned the room key, I told the two ladies at the front desk about all the mishaps and that they were probably due to that phone. Other rooms called the front desk, but somehow my room number showed up on their screen? What’s also astounding is that they were completely unaware of these many incidents. They first heard about them from me. I said above that the food was good / decent but as for the service both at lunch and in the morning, it felt rushed. Perhaps they were short handed, but the wait staff was under pressure and ran around a lot. It’s incongruous in a luxury environment like this. Several days AFTER my arrival, the hotel sent a welcome email via Expedia. I know that this is a minor point, but it seems to confirm my suspicion that theirs is not a well-oiled system. Do they mean to NOT provide pens, notepads, and tissues or is it that housekeeping just forgot? Finally, when I paid my bill the night before my departure, I mentioned that I had to leave early the next day and thus won’t be able to have breakfast. There was NO offer to pack a breakfast bag for me. Again, even 4-star hotels have always offered this service in the past. Given the location, the physical plant, and the decent food service this hotel could be truly a great 5-star hotel. As it is today, I don’t quite know what it deserves. Four stars or even three? Perhaps 3-star would be unfair, but in any case, I won’t return.

The stay at this hotel was a delight. The staff were exceptional and so very helpful. My wife lost her phone while out walking and the staff bent over backwards to help us including making multiple phone calls to City officials as well as calls back to Canada for us. The hotel is ideally situated as it is only a 5 minute walk to the Alhambra and a 10 minute walk through a lovely shaded park to Old Town. The amenities were first rate, the rooms quiet and comfortable. The icing on the cake is that the hotel was reasonably priced. Very highly recommended.

We stayed here for our one-night visit to Granada and wish we could have stayed longer. Our room was so comfortable and worthy of 5 stars (separate soaker tub, rainfall shower, bathrobes, two Juliet balconies, lighting options, double sinks, etc). The location was perfect for visiting the Alhambra (a stone’s throw away), a short walk to excellent restaurants with incredible views, charming shops, etc., and a brief cab ride to the train station. We will definitely stay again when in the area.

Disappointed with our stay here. First thing was that it said “limited parking on site” and “offsite parking available with discounts”. There is NO on site parking and NO discounts available. So that’s just unnecessary frustration. The room was nice enough but lots not right, Mainly housekeeping related. Including: Negatives * No milk or creamer in room * No breakfast tea bags, just 2 x camomile (in a 5*) * no remote for TV * conditioner empty in shower * phone broken and didn’t work * no towels by the pool on our first day (they were there on day2) * pool was really dirty with so much stuff on the bottom * room was too hot and A/C didn’t do much. We thought it was broken and even had someone come check. Room was way too hot - some other reviews say the same I’ve noticed Positives Great that there’s a steamer instead of iron ! Big, comfortable bed It’s clean Great shower
