We've stayed in better 3-star hotels. During our two-week vacation in Spain and Portugal we stayed in six 4-star and 5-star hotels. This was the most expensive, and we found 4 other hotels much better. Parador de Toledo was less expensive and twice as nice. It was the only hotel on our trip where the restaurant waiter did not speak English (this would be expected at lesser hotels, but not a 5-star). Air conditioner was very poor (so we couldn't sleep). Two twin beds were put together for the queen bed (again, this might be expected in 3-stary hotels, but not a 5-star; indeed, the other three 5-star hotels we stayed at, including Parador de Toledo, have a full-sized king bed). Room was very small, about the size of a typical 3-star Holiday Inn. Half-board was expensive, and not worth it. Mediocre breakfast. Very, very disappointed, as we expected this to be the best of the hotels we stayed at and it was far from it. On the positive side, excellent location (but so too is Hotel American, which is next door, and half the cost).

Brief review on iphone: for the alhambra this is the pkace to stay. We followed the Telegraph review and booked the tower — seranade of frogs st night. Those moors understood water stoage and use. Restaurabts are excellent. Only guests can book the cena do this atleast once. We did for arrival night and departure and end of hiking day at la aluparra whie villages. This is a very veryy well run high end hotel. Trust their picks for alhambra guides.

After a long day visiting the Alhambra and the General Life in Granada, it was a pleasure to have the Parador de Granada just steps away. The staff was efficient, the room cleaned quickly each morning, and the grounds and view of General Life amazing. What a great stay.

What you’re paying for here mostly is location, location, location. It’s one of 2 hotels inside the Alhambra complex. The rooms (we were in a ground floor, basic) are fine, the evening meal was good. Eclectic menu. The waiting service and attention to customers however - even though they were understaffed and working hard, to be fair - wasn’t compatible with the price you’re paying. Management issue maybe. This was the case at both lunchtime in a lovely outside setting, and at dinner. The breakfast, to which we always look forward and like to linger over was a disappointment. We were out in 20 minutes. The buffet choice is ok, but for a few hundred euros a night, you expect to be spoiled a little. There was no buffet cutlery and each table setting had its own wooden tongs to go and self-serve. And the bread seemed stale. I’d say it was all rather minimalist. Fine for €100 a night, but not for what the hotel charges. If you want to be up on the hill and in and among the extraordinary gardens and architectural complexes, avoid crowds early and late, stay. But you should know that your money has to do a lot of heavy lifting here.

Amazing experience to sleep inside the wonderful Alhambra. The staff were super kind, efficient and helpful. The room was very beautiful. Very clean. The bed was firm, good pillows, very nice toiletries and an amazing view to the patio. Breakfast was excellent as well as dinner at the restaurant.

Response from Marian Montero Cuadrado, General Manager at Parador de Granada

Dear Guests: Thank you for placing your confidence by choosing us during your stay in Granada, and for your review about our Parador facilities and service. The experience at the Parador is unforgettable not only because of its location in the heart of the Alhambra, with wonderful views of the Generalife, but because it´s located in the Convent of San Francisco of the XV century founded by Queen Elizabeth - Franciscana Tertiary - after the reconquest. Its walls protect the old Nasrid Palace of the Infants and was also the first place chosen by Queen Elizabeth as the tomb of the Catholic Monarchs. Lovely to hear your stay met your expectations and we will be happy to welcome you in the future. Best wishes. Marian Montero - Manager –

This was my second visit to this lovely Parador. It's site at the Alhambra is wonderful. The hotel is quiet and comfortable. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and a wonderful tour of the Palace led by Antonio V of GranaVision. The company was recommended by the Parador and Antonio, a history graduate, was brilliant. What a treat.
