We stayed here for three nights during our recent trip to Andalusia. This is truly honestly one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Is it or the “fanciest” or does it have absolutely every amenity? No. But it is just a very special property — stylish, soothing, tasteful in ever way and just a complete pleasure to stay at. We were in the El Campo room, which has two Juliet windows overlooking the city of Granada, the Hotel Alhambra Palace and, beyond that, views of the mountains all the way to the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The views are truly stunning. We spent some very happy moments in the garden, either at one of the tables nestled underneath the orange and lemon trees or on the wisteria-drenched patio. I left wishing that we were staying longer in Granada, just so I could have stayed another night in this wonderful property. The setting is absolutely out of this world; the staff (Lorenzo and Alejandro) were always helpful and gracious; the Alhambra is less than 5 minutes away and the Granada city center sights are a 10 minute walk away. It is secluded, but also very, very convenient. Do not hesitate to stay here. In fact, do everything you can to stay here!!! I truly hope I get the chance to return.

We stayed at this delightful, small and moderately priced hotel for three nights in late April 2023 on the second leg of a four week visit go Spain. This romantic Carmen has a spectacular location high above Granada and with only seven rooms exudes the intimacy of a bed & breakfast. We were in the bright, spacious and very comfortable El Campo room and enjoyed spectacular views of Granada and the distant hills. The Carmen is located very near the Alhambra in a quiet residential area located just down from the Alhambra Palace Hotel on one side and the memorable Carmen de San Miguel restaurant on the other. Our hosts, Alejandro and Lorenzo were welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast on the sun-filled patio was a great way to start each day. As other reviews have mentioned, it is a steep trek up the winding road from town, but as dedicated walkers we enjoyed the challenge and made the trek once or twice every day of our memorable stay; in fact, it made us feel that we were walking off some of the great meals that we enjoyed both in Granada and Madrid before that. Were we to have the opportunity to return to Granada, we would not hesitate to return to Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol and we would recommend it without reservation except perhaps for those with mobility issues..

The moment we arrived at the hotel, I immediately felt sad that weren’t staying for longer than 2 nights. Alejandro and Lorenzo were incredible hosts, and this is truly a special place. We stayed in a cozy room with an impeccable view of the city and Sierra Nevada, and enjoyed a delicious fresh breakfast each morning before setting out to explore the city. Alhambra is only minutes away further up the hill, and El Centro and Alabicin are a quick trek downhill (bus and taxi are both available as well). The many garden and patio areas are also perfect for an afternoon rest (even in the winter!), but the entire property is a perfect retreat. I can’t wait to return!

Enjoying the magnificent views from a terrace room at the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol comes at a cost – one measured in shoe leather and arching legs after another climb up from the city centre. However, once you’ve made it to the hotel, you’re almost level with the main reason for visiting Granada – the Alhambra. Indeed, the wooded valley adjoining the Alhambra is just around the corner and is a lovely spot for a brief evening stroll. As a carmene, the hotel is itself a classic piece of Granadino architecture, incorporating lovely terraces and lots of flowers. You can see something similar at a nearby museum called Fundacion Rodriguez-Acosta, but its nice to actually stay in such a building.

The staff at the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol are a very friendly and welcoming bunch. They tend not to be on-site after breakfast, but they always responded quickly to messages whilst I was there. Breakfast is a pleasant, low key affair with plenty of (very) local fruit, ham, cheese and the rest.

Our terrace room was spacious and very homey. The grim weather did not allow for much use of the terrace but the time we did spend there was very agreeable. The lounge area, with its panoramic views, proved to be a good stand-in for the terrace.

Although my heart occasionally sank at the prospect of another climb up to the hotel, I am really pleased we chose it as our base for exploring Granada.

This hotel is amazingly beautiful. Old style and traditional but impeccably clean with modern amenities. Alejandro is a kind and attentive host. We requested the La Torre room which is beautiful with French doors opening on a huge terrace with an expansive mountain and city view. The optional breakfast was perfect and recommended as the location is up windy cobble stone streets from the commercial downtown areas so no cafes nearby. Only a 15 minute walk to The Alhambra. A perfect experience.

A wonderful stay.
Hosts Alejandro & Lorenzo are first rate.
Hotel has terrific views over the city with easy access to Alambra.
Situated on the hillside, the city is merely a 10 minute walk to the main bars & restaurants.
Breakfast is a relaxed affair, and has everything you would require.
Rooms are well appointed, and we found the hotel extremely quiet & chilled during our 3 night stay.
For those of you who wish to visit this lovely city, this hotel is worthy of consideration.
Muy bien!!!

We loved staying at the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol. It is in a fantastic position for visiting the Alhambra. The rooms and gardens are stylish and charming, with great air-conditioning that was a life saver during a july heat wave. Lorenzo was incredibly helpful with booking taxis and great restaurant recommendations, as well as driving our vehicle to the garage from the meeting point, very welcome given the narrow streets.
Breakfasts were fresh, simple and delicious. Being able to park our car securely onsite was also a huge bonus. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night!

We stayed four nights in La Torre, the top-floor room, with a private balcony and fabulous, uninterrupted views over the south of Granada and the mountains. Honestly, the balcony views were just tremendous, day and night, and worth the room rate alone. There was no noise apart from those of the city far below waking up or going to bed, which were oddly comforting rather than annoying.

The hotel is a steep walk up from the city centre (or down from the Alhambra Palace Hotel, if you get the little bus). No, really, it's very steep and probably not suitable for anyone who has any problems with walking. Then there are stairs in the hotel itself... Worth it for the views, though.

The room was great, with a decent amount of storage, a big comfortable bed, and a nice bathroom (and the balcony with table and chairs). No air conditioning, though, so you would be reliant on the through breeze in hot weather.

Breakfast was a simple affair of cereal, fruit, yogurt, eggs, cheese, meat, bread and preserves. Plenty for us to stoke the fires in preparation for the walking to come. Granada is a hilly place.

The owner, Alejandro, is lovely. He speaks great English and is friendly and helpful. Lorenzo, who managed breakfast, is the same.

We have no hesitation is recommending this hotel.

This is a fantastic place to stay in Granada. It is 3/4 of the way up to the Alhambra and the views from the many vantage points from the property itself are wonderful with the Sierra Nevada to the left and a majestic sweep of the city and surrounding area everywhere else!

We stayed for 3 nights in the Torre Room with a private terrace. Hearing the sounds of the city gently rising from below was wonderful - close enough to be part of it but sufficiently far away to be relaxing.

Alejandro was incredibly helpful prior to arrival with directions and throughout our stay. Getting to the property is easy enough as long as you follow his instructions and it was nice to be able to hand the keys to Alejandro to look after the car when we got there!

Breakfast is basic but fresh and convenient.

There is a honesty bar where you can help yourself to all types of drinks and enjoy them wherever you want around the property.

A great and very good value place to stay in a brilliant city.

Lorenzo and his team were all terrific. From the email confirming our booking with careful instructions on how to find it, collecting us from the parking spot, settling us in, marking out the map, great breakfast etc. the “hotel” has 7 rooms I think and beautiful shared spaces and balconies with gorgeous views. As Lorenzo said, he prefers to call it a guest house. It’s situated near the Alhambra Palace hotel so up the hill and therefore near Alhambra itself and the centre of old town. So a good location and makes the walk uphill home not too bad. Just terrific.

There is no designated parking, but you can probably park on the street nearby. Breakfast is available but costs extra. However, it is very nice and there is no other place to have breakfast in the neighborhood. No elevator. Our room was up two flights and they were not easy.
