I returned to Asa Wright after a gap of fifteen years and it seemed that I had only been there yesterday. Asa Wright appears to be in a time warp. However, to overhaul the centre much would not necessarily be for the better. I visited as part of a group of eight for birding experiences and for this, Asa Wright...

The food is only fair, the accommodation is so-so, your fellow guests can be a pain as can the insects so don't go if you want a nice comfortable stay. On the other hand if you want to see birds and other nature this is a top venue. The staff are great and go the extra mile to make sure...

This is a perfect location for nature lovers in the Rain Forest of Trinidad - a paradise. Our recent visit, with observation and photography in mind, was totally ruined by: Blundering hoards of list ticking so called 'birders' - once seen, however briefly and distantly, a bird was no longer of interest. Only one on-site guide, Barry Ramdass, appeared to...

Didn't know quite what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. We had heard varying reports about this place, but we had a great time. It must be difficult to satisfy everybody.but we found Asa Wright did exactly what it said on the tin ! The wildlife(which is why you go) was out of this world, and if you were an out and out...

The drive to the centre is very scenic and adventurous and though the road is winding one won't get lost once you have the proper directions. The centre itself has ample parking and the old/colonial building is perfect for birding and reading. Very quiet location and the walk to the waterfall is also very soothing. Food is good as well...

If birding is at the top of your "bucket list," this is definitely the place. Deep in the mountain jungles, the lodge is the perfect habitat for numerous species of hummingbird. My favorite was the Jacobin. There are refurbished rooms up the hill from the main house if you don't mind a steep climb. There are additional rooms adjacent to...

Was there is 2004 for a short visit and it nestled in my memory. So when my wife and I were looking for a special quiet place we tried to book a room for a few days. It is that "special and quiet" that you cannot book on line via Tripadvisor!! A phone call and a simple email confirmation and...

If you love nature, especially birds, you'll love Asa Wright. Approximately an hour's drive from Port of Spain along steep and winding roads, you'll find a lovely colonial house in the heart of the rainforest. The verandah is the perfect place to while away a few hours enjoying the amazing birds that visit the feeders - an array of tanagers,...

We spent seven nights, December 6 to 13th as part of a Canadian tour group. All and all, a terrific experience. I arrived with a chest infection and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The food on site and in our packed lunches was always tasty, nutritious and plentiful. The accommodation was basic but comfortable and clean. And, of course,...

Birding from the verandah is everything that everyone says it is, and the guides are terrific. As many people have pointed out, you should go here for the birds, not the accommodation. The accommodation just does not measure up to the birding. If you are staying more than a couple of days (as we were), the food starts to become...
