Perhaps the finest breakfast of our lives, go for the slight upgrade that includes lobster. Room 1.2 had a modest balcony and an incredible view of an historic cathedral, not THE HISTORIC CATHEDRAL, where €10 gets you up a bunch of scary steps. This is college town recommended to us by a Spanish professor we met at a bar in New Orleans.
Wonderful and charming luxury hotel in the old town of Salamanca. My room was large with a view on the beautiful Convento de San Esteban. Comfortable bedding, very quiet. Large bathroom with shower and bathtub with luxury products from London. Breakfast with a big choice of local products was delicious. Had no time to try out the new Michelin starred restaurant which seems to be the best dining option in town. Staff of Beatriz was very helpful and efficient
Attentive staff. Lovely view of Convento St Esteban from balcony of room. Very close to Cathedrals, University and Rua Mayor. Peaceful surroundings. Quiet bar to relax in after busy day of sightseeing. Very comfortable bed. Large soaking tub.
We were driving through Spain and needed safe parking. The reception and concierge staff at this hotel were exceptionally friendly, efficient and helpful on all counts. It's an old hotel, quirky but the bedrooms and bathroom are rather tired. The restaurant and bar area are a little compromised due to the historic nature of the building but it has a welcoming atmosphere and is comfortable. The food was amazing....dinner fantastic and the best breakfasts we had during our whole two weeks driving through Spain. This chef Óscar Calleja at Ment is a real find.
No heating for 3 days in winter, no hot water, duvet without a cover(unhygenic..), deck room very dark and dirty walls. The worst the personal, we complained verbally and were asked to email the Hotel Director Beatriz Bernal who did not bother to come back to us or apologise, not worth to stay here, last time we went to NH palacio castellanos on same street and was much better.
This hotel is still amongst one of my favourites in Spain and we have enjoyed staying at Don Gregorio and Salamanca for the previous few years. The COVID-19 response both in Spain and particularly Don Gregorio Hotel was very pleasing; all menus were on QR codes, masks were worn, and for example some items like the TV remote were washed and put into a plastic pouch to reduce transmission of the virus - all of which were much appreciated. Additionally, the service at this hotel continues to be fantastic - although in some cases the staff didn’t speak English too well, most front of house and catering staff went above and beyond with polite and outgoing etiquette - including giving us water on our way out for our journey. One particularly enjoyable part of our stay was also the breakfast: although in our previous experiences an excellent buffet was available, obviously this isn’t prudent in these times - however, instead a beautiful, well-presented and delicious continental breakfast was available. One criticism I might make is that when you pay extra in the room rate for breakfast, only one option of the menu is available at no extra charge, so bear this in mind if booking breakfast in the rate (although you will still save money). However, the only small let-down was in the rooms. In 2021, I believe that the design and furnishing of the rooms needs some updating, along with some much-needed maintenance of the paint, pipes and other technical features of the room - simply, the rooms are just becoming outdated. And whilst they were still comfortable and the shower/jacuzzi bath was particularly excellent, the backwards feel of the rooms does not meet both the criteria of a luxury 5-star boutique hotel, nor the price it is at. That said, it was an enjoyable and comfortable stay and we will definitely be back.…
This small, gracious hotel is walking distance to the old city sites. The decor is tasteful and rooms very comfortable. The most outstanding feature of our stay was the very sincere care and attention we received as travelers during the pandemic closures. We had to abruptly end our travels due to countrywide closures. The hotel staff allowed us to stay an additional night, provided lovely meals and professional care until we departed. They also found a professional driver for transport to Madrid airport. All of this extra attention was done with utmost kindness and patience. Truly lovely people. We highly recommend the hotel for services and location!
In the old city of Salamanca, the hotel is close to every monuments and historic sites. The staff is very courteous and helpful from the first welcoming, to parking the car, to assisting with luggages. Breakfast is excellent and here again the staff professional. The room was quiet and confortable. We were very happy. In addition, we received very good information regarding restaurants we could go to.
The hotel is perfectly located and at first sight beautifully restored. I do appreciate the common areas which are very cosy and tastefully decorated. It’s a boutique hotel so there are not many staff. One is a bellboy/waiter at the restaurant. I’m surprised that the staff even at the front desk has quite a low proficiency in English. The waiters at breakfast basically don’t speak English. But the staff are friendly and helpful except for one. As with most Luxury hotels in Spain they don’t have feather down pillows. Decent size rooms but poor finishing. Quite overpriced for what it is but I guess this is the high season.
Last 28th December I celebrated my 40th birthday in Gran Hotel Don Gregorio with a cocktail (canapes and drinks) and I have to say that it was fantastic! amazing! thanks to Carmen Bravo and the great organisational skills she has. When walking into the salon, everyone's mouths opened because it looked beautiful. The food was incredibly tasty and the presentation outstanding. I have already found a excuse to celebrate another event in Grand Hotel Don Gregorio and I highly reccomend it to everyone.
