Novotel Barcelona City boasts a prime location cherished by guests for its accessibility to transit, shopping, and beaches, enhancing the versatility of their stay. The hotel's cleanliness generally garners positive comments, though late housekeeping has been noted. Opinions on the rooms vary, ranging from praise for their cleanliness and views to criticism regarding size and maintenance.
The rooftop pool and bar are highlights, despite occasional accessibility concerns. While the amenities receive applause, some guests feel the hotel falls short on value, citing extra fees and service inconsistencies.

Detailed Reviews
Novotel Barcelona is located in the vibrant Glories district of Barcelona. it has a nice market street close by and a perfect connection to tram and Metro stations in walking distances. many dining options can be found in the vicinity of this hotel.
Breakfast is sumptuous but very small restaurant and can have considerable waiting times for a table during 0845-0945 hrs, to avoid queue one should wake up early as waiting period can last from 15-20 minutes.
Elevators in this hotel are not easy to use. At times many guests including us found it hard to use due to swipe card issues. also there are constant elevators breakdowns which mean you can wait 15-25 minutes for an elevator as two elevators for a large hotel like this is grossly insufficient.
Swimming pools is very small and not sufficient for the size of this hotel. Moreover they are not accessible during November to March as there is no heating in their outdoor pool.
Front desk is very slow and unprofessional with long waiting times for access !
Its a good hotel but has small operational issues which can ruin your otherwise good experience here. will recommend only if the price is low else not worth it.

Great location near all Barcelona's hot spots for a hotel of its rank, only 7-12 Euros for a taxi ride to the touristic area of Barcelona, there is taxi stand in front of the hotel. We booked a suite room which was very cozy and spacious, this was a good choice, traveling with a teenager as you have a separate bedroom, with a large bathroom. Housekeeping staff was great and everyone else in the hotel that we interacted with. The rooftop bar was nice to relax at night with great views to the city. Across the street there is a modern outdoor shopping mall with restaurants and bakery shops offering many food choices.

My husband and I booked a suite and was so happy we did. We were a little worried booking after reading some of the reviews but our stay was fabulous. The suite was large with separate living/dining area and 1/2 bath. The minibar had water, sodas and couple of beers that were refilled when our room was cleaned. The bedroom was large with a very comfortable bed and bathroom had a large shower, separate soaking tub and double sinks. The staff was fantastic from our check in to the waitstaff and housekeepers. The rooftop bar is a destination in itself, you can see Torre Agbar, Sagrada Familia, and Montserrat from there. I recommend mojitos, sangria, pizza and Padron peppers. The location is fantastic as well. We could walk to the beach in about 25 minutes. There is a shopping center across the street with restaurants, shops and our favorite, a supermarket, be sure to go to the 2nd floor if you go!! It's also close to metro line 1, trams and busses.
The only con I think is the 1/2 bathroom is super small and hard to close door when you're in it. I highly recommend.

We travel to Barcelona on a regular base for work. We stayed at the Novotel Barcelona, and despite the rooms are in desperate need of a refurbishment, the restaurant has the same boring menu for years and the doors slam day and night waking you up.. we got used to it and always went back. The staff at the reception was changing all the time and most times they had no or little idea of what they were doing. Check out took always forever because, for work reason we needed two separate invoices and therefore, once, we were told to always book our room for one person only, and pay the city taxes for the second person on the spot. We agreed and did so, for several times, and it worked perfectly. Last March we arrived for check in, we had a 2 weeks booking in a suite. At reception we get told that booking for one person doesn't work because there is an additional 20euro to pay for the room for the second person. We were surprised and told them we were there the month before and the one before,.. that and it was never a problem. They insisted, and totally didn't care if we are regular guest and platinum accor members. The woman at the reception was rude and insisted we pay, not only the city taxes but an additional 20Euro per night for the 14 nights we had booked. How convenient that this rule shows up only when we book such a long stay. Anyway, we had flexible rate, so we checked out and went to the Pullman. They upgraded us, gave us a welcome drink, welcome gift, sent us sangria and sweets to the room, and were super friendly and welcoming. After Covid, we will be back in Barcelona, but never again at the Novotel, from now on it's gonna be the Pullmann, because they know how to appreciate their clients.

A review of the Hotel without even staying. We cancelled our booking 48 hours before because UK Government introduced a 2 week quarantine for all returning visitors. No wonder we cancelled. Unfortunately this hotel charged us the full amount of the booking - 2 rooms for one night with no refund and very little apology. This is so damaging to their reputation resulting in this complaint. Do not stay here they clearly do not care about their guests and chase money too much

This was our 7th visit to this hotel and is also my second review so it is an honest appraisal and not a critical assessment of how some things have changed. Firstly, this hotel is in a great location and is an excellent choice for families and those wishing to explore Barcelona. Breakfast remains a great option with a wide variety of choice catering for all tastes. So what’s changed; we stayed in an executive room that was definitely in need of a refresh compared to other executive rooms we have been given at the same hotel and perhaps Covid has impeded any ongoing refurbishment. The signature feature of this hotel is the roof top pool and it’s surrounding area but for some reason this has been completely transformed to an area of plastic tables and chairs and a totally inadequate number of sun beds (10 in total). The pool occupies a corner of the roof top with glass walls and ledges, which in previous years has been supervised by a pool attendant which is now no longer the case. This lack of supervision provided a green light for children / teenagers to have an abundance of fun jumping in and in general breaking all the previous rules that have applied. The absolute inadequate number of sun beds also provided the perfect scenario of “on your feet, lose your seat” as sun-bed wars continued throughout the day, making trips to your room / bathroom a significant risk! As a consequence we elected to visit the beach thinking this would be a better option however 2 old and damaged sun beds with an umbrella are €45 per day. This is something surely that Barcelona needs to address as it ridiculously overpriced. This hotel has been a fantastic option over the last decade but sadly it’s time to move on and seek somewhere that is perhaps a little more adult orientated.

Me and my wife stayed at the Novotel Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, it is centrally located, across the Glories shopping center which has Carrefour (which is like a Walmart but better quality). Many restaurants and stores and a lot of nightlife activities. There is a metro station within a block, you can navigate the city easily, in fact, it only takes less than 12 minutes to the Catalunya Square where a lot of attractions and city centre are within walking distance. Get a 3 day metro pass and you’re so set to travel the city efficiently and quick. La Sagrada Familia cathedral is within eye view from the hotel, but distances can be deceiving, it may be a 20-30 min walk. We LOVED the breakfast, it couldn’t have been better! The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Overall, we loved Barcelona, a lot of history, architecture, arts, very efficient mass transportation system and locals were very accommodating.

We stayed with our teenage daughter in a suite room. There aren’t lots of hotels in Barcelona that can accommodate 3 people in one room, but the Novotel can, and this is the main reason we picked it.
It’s a clean, functional and seemingly quite new hotel, with a fabulous view from the top pool/bar area. The only thing I would say about the pool is that it doesn’t seem to be heated, so when we visited in April it was pretty chilly! I’m sure during the hot summer months this would be very welcome after a hot day sightseeing though.
The room itself was very spacious with good facilities; having two toilets was also really handy at times.
The location, whilst a little out of the centre of Barcelona, was still excellent - just a short walk up to Glories metro station which you can use to get quickly into the main square within about 10 mins and within a 5 minute walk there was also one of the stops for the Barcelona Touristique open top bus. The tram system was also very close by too.
We chose to have breakfast in the hotel each morning and it was quite a large area so could get pretty busy. You have to ‘pre-book’ a breakfast slot by asking the reception desk for a card which has an allotted time on it for when you want to have breakfast. I guess for a busy city centre hotel this is needed, and we also stayed near to Easter time so the hotel was probably extra busy due to that, but it was never a problem and there was always plenty of food with a great variety from fresh pancakes, to hot food (including some lovely local things), fruit and freshly made pastries.
There is a Westfield shopping centre just across the road which includes a large Carrefour supermarket, and plenty of restaurants nearby offering various things from tapas to McDonald’s.
Overall a really nice hotel with friendly reception staff and we’d definitely stay here again if we came back to Barcelona.

The Novotel is a large, busy structure in a neighborhood just outside the centre of Barcelona.
Our room was ok, if anything slightly dated. The beds were comfortable but the bathroom door opened directly onto the bed which is not necessarily very discreet (suffice to say the smell of someone using the loo is not going to help the other person relax).
As a very busy hotel the staff seemed to struggle a little too keep up with the many requests by clients, so they often came across as edgy and dismissive.
Breakfast (for an additional cost) was good but with a 30 minute limit one feels rushed, and the breakfast room was very very crowded.
We enjoyed the pool on the roof and the bar next to it.
We asked for a recommendation for a restaurant and we were sent to a very touristic one nearby which was very disappointing.
Overall I would not recommend the Novotel.

Dear Giulio N, Thank you for writting your recent experience with us at Novotel Barcelona City. Your remarks will help us improve the quality of our service. Novotel Barcelona City is indeed a hotel with numerous rooms, situated in the modern neighborhood 22@ near the Sagrada Familia at 15 minutes from the center by metro and pubblic transport. At this period of the year, the hotel is fully booked therefore more busy than it can be off-season. We apologize if you didn't feel well attended by our staff due to the many inquiries they received. Be sure that we try to do our best every day at every moment. Also, we are sorry you wasn´t able to enjoy a breakfast as peacfully as we wished you would. Still, we are glad you appreciated the pool and the bar in the terrace. We hope to deserve your recommendation if you chose to stay again with us. Sincerly, Barbara C - Guest Experience Manager

We were pleasantly surprised by the location of this hotel. Across the street is a Westfield Mall which as both indoor and outdoor shopping/dinning. Both locals and tourists can be found there. There is also a grocery store at this mall which made getting water and other supplies very easy. The metro station is 1.5 block away and only 15-20min from Placa Cataluna. The tram is also across the street. The hotel was clean and check in was efficient. The staff was always friendly and the door security staff always greeted everyone with a smile. We paid for the breakfast for our 6 night stay , it has a good variety of morning foods. The kids loved the pancake making machine and the sweet toppings. Mom and I loved the coffee machines as they ground whatever elixir of the gods you were craving to jump start your morning. The roof top pool/bar/restaurant was great to have as Barcelona summers are HOT! The views up there are pretty nice. The wait staff on the roof were very interactive with the kids and adults alike. That same staff worked the restaurant/breakfast on the ground floor and always remembered us and would always have a conversation with the 4 of us. We were fortunate enough to have a room with both the Tower and Water view. I would recommend this Hotel to any family considering it as it's far enough away from the "touristy feel/noise" yet close enough to metro all over the city as we did. I would advise anyone staying here to consider the 2 or more day Metro pass since Barcelona has such a great public transportation system. We used all public transportation there except the scooters only because we had small children.
I do wish the rooms were updated with USB charging outlets and or outlets with non European ones. With 4 iPads, 4 iPhones to charge, I had to do them in shifts.

We took a taxi, and at that hour, I think it would be your best option.
In general, the trains in the city are quite good, but you'll need to be a quick study and get your pass ASAP.
I never went to their gym. I was on vacation did enough work out from the incredibly amount of walking that you do there. Honestly I never saw any kind of gym there. They have a rooftop bar and pool in the rooftop, though very small space.
Hi Ewelina,
Normally pool wil be closed because it is an external pool, but if weather is good we try to open.
We hope to welcome in our hotel soon. Best regards,
Bárbara C - Guest Experience Manager
