Very cool and funky hotel in a great area. Location: center city. Very convenient to many of the sites, metro, shopping (high end), hop on/ hop off bus, nice restaurants, etc Hotel overall: just COOL with a very laid back, fun vibe. Daily free yoga classes. Free walking tour. Amazing breakfast. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. No language issues. Decor is fabulous and eclectic. Excellent use of old and new. Elevators from the last century. Circular staircases surround the elevators. Yoga studio with colorful, comfortable pillows. Tile floors. Lots of shared/common areas including library, study, terrace (great sitting area for cards and a glass of wine), communal kitchen with fridges, micro, plates, glasses, flatware... The room: we got a double with ensuite bath. The room was TINY and dark. Had a bed and an open "warerobe" with a rod and couple of shelves and that was it. One window with drapes looking out over a small, dark inner courtyard type square. Not even bedside tables. The bath was tiny and the shower floor was ceramic and treacherous when wet. No grab bars, so be had to be very careful. The room was quite off putting at first, but once you "let it go", it sort of fit with the experience. It made us socialize more and enjoy the common areas. Met a couple of interesting people... No TV -- anywhere, including common areas. At first it was strange, but we ended up enjoying the break from the noise -- it fits with the Casa vibe. Price/rate: very reasonable, @$100us per night plus tax.…
we have stayed in the hotel during the new years eve and it was good. fresh beds and clean towels every day. the bathroom was fine. you hear the upstairs neighbors as soon as a bed will moved. downstairs there is a nice bar to have a drink and talk about how the day was.
A real disaster. We were three people in a very small room, we could hardly move and no place to hang clothes. The bathroom had no ammenities (no shampoo or soap) and the window overlooked a scary inner courtyard. All this for 288 euros / night. A real shame. We requested a change and there were no more rooms, the usual excuse. I had come at the beginning a couple of times but I never come back, there are many other hotels in Barcelona better.
Nice accommodation, but little availability to clarify a misunderstanding and satisfy our requirements caused by a wrong reservation. We have indicated the wishes dates online as booking, but the system has proposed different dates and confirmed without a warning to us, and nobody pointed it out, even though there was a correspondence per e-mail. The position of hostel is excellent to move around the town.
Hostel is located conveniently on the main shopping district, just mins from metro station or less than 20min walk to Pl de Catalunya where airport bus and main shopping and eating places are. Rooms are huge for quadruple room which had 5 single beds and space for our family of 4 with teens. The pool table was a nice place to chill in the evening. Shared cooking facilities really helpful when we missed some home cooked meals. Reception was helpful too. Only 1 day we didn't have hot water as they doing renovation works.
We found the mattresses very comfortable (perhaps too soft for some people). Rooms are small but suficient for resting in. Windows overlooking the inner grey atrium give a sense of being in a prison. I imagine there are better views. However, that could be feature of cheaper rooms or bad luck. This is an unusually warm December, so the room was too hot. But by opening the windows to let cool air in, you have to suffer from all sort of noises in return (AC non stop machines, kitchen, etc.). Comunal areas are probably the best part. Location is top notch.
The location is great, the building is old, big and very beautiful. The part of the place is a hostel and upstairs they have hotel rooms. The room is small but looks okay, and the bed is comfortable. The light in the room was very bad, almost no light if you switch it on (didn't have a window light). The tubes in the bathroom are probably pretty old because most of the time it was very stinky and the sink was licking. Breakfast was good, a lot of things to choose from, cartoons on the projector, and Nespresso coffee. But during the weekend scrambled eggs were always raw :( The vibe of the place is more like Hostel for young people. In the night was a looot of noise, 2 nights some people had very loud sex with the open window. Friday and Saturday were pretty crazy at the night, with a lot of screaming, music, and walking drunk people. We wanted to have some rest, but didn't sleep well during the 5 days we used to stay at this place, so be careful if you're not going to party hard. At the end of the trip I had to work a bit and went to seat in the library space, it was quiet there and a couple of other people were working also next to me. Some man (probably a hostel guest) came there with very loud music on his mobile. I asked him very politely to do the sound a bit down, but he started to fight with me and say that this is not a working space and people can do what they want here :) This is how people mostly feel at this place, no rules, only fun. If you're a couple who wants to have some rest and especially if you come with your kids, wouldn't recommend staying here.…
The first 2 days I’d have said maybe 4 stars. But then one thing after the other came up, and I think 2 stars is more accurate. Positive: The best part of Casa Gràcia is (1) it’s location near buses & metro (2) the good breakfast (3) the style of the place and (4) it’s multigenerational guest profile, I appreciate that this is not a hectic youth hostel & it has the privacy of a hotel with the convenience of the shared spaces you find in hostels (5) the kitchen was good & relatively clean for a shared space. Neutral: The projector showing old cartoons was a nice touch at breakfast. The lack of a TV perhaps is a point to mention. Not so great, some things I struggled with: -the old building/thin walls/no soundproofing means you can hear your neighbour’s voices, alarm clocks, etc. Late night & early morning disturbances. -street noise. Having a balcony was great but if we had stayed longer the street noise wouldn’t have been manageable. -The housekeeping was inconsistent - often we needed to look for the cleaning cart & ask for refills -the plumbing is old and was problematic by the end of our stay -the bathroom seems to have been recently renovated which was nice, but the shower leaked with every shower -Dust. The room shelves/headboard, floor & curtains were dusty. The relax common space (see the website) had dusty carpets and cushions which made it hard to want to be in there to relax which is a shame because it’s a nice space to have available. -The worst was the last night when guests in the rooms on both sides of ours came in after midnight and were conversing loudly (relatively, due to the lack of soundproofing) and on one side they were smoking on their balcony, which made our room smell like weed and cigarettes for the rest of the night. *To be fair for this review, reception/security helped when I went down at 01:15 (after failing to communicate well with the neighbours - & why try to confront people/strangers more than is comfortable or safe. I just wanted to sleep). Suggestion: -Better communication to guests at check-in is needed about the sound (& smell) travelling & noise levels late night & early morning. At check-in we weren’t expressly told about this for example. -Wouldn’t having ear plugs available at reception be a nice touch… both for guest disturbances and street noise. Conclusion: We generally had a neutral enough stay at Casa Gràcia. If only a few nights, these negative things won’t matter so much. But it slowly started to add up after a stay close to a week, unfortunately as things unfolded it was too late to do much about it. And well, a pair of inconsiderate neighbours, what ya gona do hey.…
We stayed in a double room with ensuite and were attracted to this hotel due to the common areas (bar, pool table etc), which we thought would be good to use during the evening to wind down after a day of exploring. However when we tried to use them we were informed the whole of the basement bar was booked out by a private party during our stay. And tables on the ground floor bar/restaurant had to be booked, they wouldn't even let us have a drink at the bar. The room was small, but clean. However no tea and coffee making facilities or TV which was disappointing, given the price I would have expected this. The shower was good, the water was hot. We wouldn't stay here again though.
The location of this beautiful historical building is absolutely perfect but the good points end here. The room I had was clean but it didn’t look anything like the photos of what I booked on Booking, it was literally a tiny square with no character, with a small “window” facing an inner shaft. I suggest you make sure you get what you reserved. The staff is pretty unfriendly, online check-in is useless because you have to show your id and get your key at the reception anyhow, breakfast is average and service is poor (you have to clean your table when you’re done). Would not come back.
