As first timers staying in a hostel and being older (mid 40's) we didn't really know what to expect, the hostel has a bar/restaurant to the front but the room we had was very quiet, we slept well in a comfy bed, the room was small but sufficient, has a small clean ensuite, air conditioning and good wifi. We only... More

Clean but small room and private bathroom, very good location for public transport, many amenities (towel every day), friendly staff (the man comes from Italy so speaks a good Italian), he offers us a beer when we arrived but Hostal was closed in 15th august.

I visited Oliveta in April 2016, after a difficult search for a good tapas bar in Barcelona (yeah, I know!). It was on the recommendation of a Spanish man we stopped in the street. We wanted somewhere unpretentious, used by actual locals and obviously with good food. Well, we hit the jackpot. The owners, a couple called Cesar and Edson... More

You enter through the bar, provided you arrive before it closes. During the night they have another entrance on the side, which I haven't tried. The man doing the checkin didn't speak any English but I still managed to understand his explanations. The room was small and poorly furnished, just enough to sleep and take a shower. The street wass... More

Although the hostal is well situated and the people nice and helpful so the place would be basically OK, I was not happy with it. I understand that Barcelona is expensive and in high demand, especially in summer, but what I got for the price was: - a 4-person room where it was really difficult to navigate once all 4... More

The access to the hostal is apparently normally through the bar/ restaurant.I had informed the hostal I would be arriving around 11pm, when I arrived the bar was shut. Luckily I had taken down the phone number (as it wasnt very visible) and rang to ask how to get in saying I had a reservation and was standing outside the... More

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
