Generator Barcelona garners praise for its friendly staff and strategic location, which offers easy access to metro stations and attractions. The modern vibe of the hotel is popular among guests, though some have concerns about noise and room decor.
While the amenities such as secure storage and social spaces are highlights, visitors are critical of the extra charges and question the value, pointing out high prices for the offered services. Room cleanliness and maintenance receive mixed reviews, with some guests flagging issues, especially in bathrooms.

I went there during the Mercè weekend quite randomly and I was pleasantly surprised. Everything is done to make you feel good. There is a room for resting and reading, a room for playing billiards and table football. The rooms are very good, and soundproofed, you don't hear the noise of bars or people in general. I recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to be in the city center of Barcelona, meet people and have fun.

This hostel is in Gracia, one of the best areas to stay in Barcelona. The hostel is big and pretty crowded, you may like this or not depending on the experience you want, I have found that smaller hostels have a different/more cozy vibe and for some people it MAY also be easier to meet new people in the common areas if you're a solo traveler in smaller hostels, but this is totally dependend on the person and it's not to say that this hostel is not social, quite the opposite, with big common areas, a club/bar inside the hostel (!) and a rooftop (open from 10 am to 10 pm, don't miss it for a great view of the Sagrada Familia!) there's plenty of occasions to be social, but I guess with the facility being so big and with so many different people it may feel like trying to be social with strangers in a regular bar/club, which may not be for everyone (compared to a smaller hostel which brings people closer more easily I guess?). They also will organize groups for going clubbing in Barcelona after 1am. Of course if you don't care about meeting people and just want to mind your own business you won't have a problem either, most of the time you will find a relatively quiet spot somewhere in the hostel. I think such a big hostel is a bit more difficult to keep as clean as certain smaller ones, but it's still pretty clean. The rooms have lockers but you'll need your own lock (they can sell it to you). They also have hotel/private rooms with small balconies. The elevators are often busy and will take a long time, I recommend the stairs to be faster :D. The eating area is pretty big, but you cannot cook, only microwave, and the common fridge is always pretty full, so don't think you can keep a lot of groceries at once. I stayed here for three weeks and had a pretty good experience, my only complaint would be that in that amount of time they changed my bed sheets only once. In general I would recommend this hostel!

This was the cheapest option when we went to Barcelona so we weren't expecting much. It's actually pretty good. It's more of a budget hotel than a hostel, you'd see people from different age groups. During breakfast you'd see old people as well as children. So if you're looking for a party hostel this isn't the place. There's a bar downstairs though and it's quite easy to meet people there if you're traveling alone. The area is great too, close to the metro station and a number of attractions. lots of places to eat nearby. there's a mini mart just across the street.
Facilities were great, rooms were kept clean. Wifi was good. The buffet breakfast was pretty good too and i'd say it's fairly priced. There are washers and dryers in the basement if you need to do your laundry, you just need coins to operate em. If you don't have coins you could easily get some at the reception. Which brings me to the only complaint i'm going to make. At night there's frequently a long line at the reception. The hostel needs to hire more people to man the reception at night.

Location was perfect and the main reason we selected Generator. Staff was friendly but understaffed.
Value for money is the worst. I misread hostel for hotel. The extra letter 's' that I missed in the description made my expectations obviously too high: no towels in the rooms (you have to pay separately for this). We received the towels complementary after we complained about it.
No soap or shampoo in the room other than handsoap. Obviously, it is my own fault for having too high expectations, but EUR 433 per night per room for 6 bunk beds for less than 40 m², is not a bargain.
Above all, after an early flight, we looked forward to check-in at 14:00 as advertised. After three promises of each additional 15 minutes of extra waiting time, we could get to our room. At the room, the key cards did not work. And the rest, I already mentioned above.
If I paid 30 percent of what I actually paid, the poor performance might be explained, but not such a service for a whopping daily rate per night, which is higher than a premium hotel in the Caribbean with 5 stars.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're glad the location met your expectations and that our staff was friendly, though we regret hearing that the service felt understaffed. We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you faced, from the delayed check-in to the issues with towels and room amenities. Your point about the value for money is well noted, and we understand how the cost did not align with your expectations, especially given the bunk bed setup and lack of included essentials. We’ll take your comments seriously as we strive to improve the experience and better match the service level to the rates charged.

The only good thing about this property is the location, everything else is a disaster. I went for work, I accompanied 15 students for an internship, the rooms of the six-person boys, are little more than a compartment of the train, maybe for a stay of a couple of days you can do, but two weeks is a nightmare. Dirty, cleaning every 4days is sol on request, the boys bought detergents to clean the bathroom, toilet paper with dropper and cockroaches in the bed. My room was single equipped with only one towel that was changed every 4 days, as a shelf a fruit box and as a cupboard a tube. The sink cap broke and they came to fix it after two days. Third world breakfast few cheap things, often dirty dishes and cups and not even a little fruit. Also were guest a hundred kids, football teams, impossible even to enter the room of the coation, ended up that we had to go to breakfast at the bar. Two weeks to cancel

We got a little late for our Reservation and the Awards being what they are in Barcelona, we opted for a dormitory. On the site, the presentation was envious, but on arrival my Rating is salty. There is luggage storage, but it is charged; count 5 euros for 6 hours. There's a bar, but it doesn't open until late afternoon. The room is still open, which allows to be seated to have a good time. Outside opening hours there is a drinking machine. Don't you dare go elsewhere to buy something else to drink in the bar room, the security guard will take you out of the establishment. On the dorm side, cross your fingers to fall with people who have the same way of life as you (hours, hygiene...) we were lucky. The lockers to put your personal belongings are not large (they are nevertheless of a beautiful volume) you must not have too big a suitcase. A cabin suitcase fits in. Remember to bring a padlock. Otherwise we offer you one for the modest sum of 6 euros (3€ in neighboring shops). The shower area and toilet are like the lockers... small. On the hygiene side a quick cleaning of the rooms is done every day. I admire the courage of the people who do this work in this establishment and especially in the common areas. Some guests really think they are allowed and when you see the state of the corridors in the morning, it must be quite a job for them! Breakfast is correct for the Award, no more. In the end, if we can't find something better, we can settle for a night or two...

I stayed for 4 nights and I hated it. The hostel is very crowded, and when I arrived nobody informed about the facilities there. Also, there's no security, I saw a person sleeping in my hallway, he wasn't a guest because I saw when he arrives at the hostel and went to the sofas. Moreover, there's no hairdryer in the rooms, so if you need one, you'll need to ask at the reception and pay a €20 deposit in cash. I had to do laundry, but the dryer machine (€3.50) didn't work properly, so I don't recommend to do laundry there.

Mohamed was very accommodating, all staff are very nice and helpful. We had to check in and out of rooms and they made storing our luggage very simple, as well as getting a towel and other necessities, guiding us to local restaurants, and more. The lounge/mezzanine area is also very cool.

The focus of this hostel is going out, so keep that in mind when booking it. I personally don't have an issue with this, but it's not my thing, so it took away from my experience a bit. In general terms, it's a decent hostel. The common areas are clean and comfortable, the staff are always helpful, and it's in a good location. The rooms could definitely be cleaned more frequently - my room was quite dirty, especially the bathroom. However, if you are planning to spend most of your time out exploring or partying, then it's tolerable. There's always a chance to make friends at the hostel because of its social events, which I liked.

Beds didn’t have curtains for privacy. Curtains have been a standard in hostels in many places I’ve stayed, they make an huge difference to sleep and quality of the stay. Also, the hall way carpets on the 5th floor smelt terrible.

I paid almost $500 for 3 nights - absolutely ridiculous. Do not stay here. Service and rooms were awful and not worth $500. I strongly advise looking elsewhere
It doesn't matter just book a shared mixed room. They are not gonna ask for your relationsship status. Do take note that your gonna be in a room with other people so you don't have that much privacy.

In the dorm rooms there is a lockable space under the beds for luggage. You’ll need your own padlock to secure it. Big enough for an average sized suitcase, we could fit in two carry-on suitcases.
There are also lockers near reception to store luggage, but I’d only advise using them for a short time as you pay for them.
I hope this helps
