It was a special birthday for my wife. We wanted a hotel which was centrally located, medium sized, at the high end of the quality scale and had style. H1898 met these criteria admirably. Unfortunately such birthdays don't come around too often!

I have stayed here a number of times, and the service has always been great, best of all consistent! It is a beautifully designed, well run, comfortable and perfectly located hotel. My only comment would be that the breakfast is delicious with loads of choice, but the dinner was a bit boring. Not that the food was bad, but frankly...

Second time I visit Hotel 1898 and I just love this place ! Not only the hotel is a gem but also the service is awesome: fruits/ champagne offered for my birthday, extra attention to cleanliness of the room due to dust allergies. Great staff which is at the same time very supportive and discreet. There's no need to hesitate....

Second time we're staying here. Brilliant service, recognized us upon arrival where our last stay was slightly over a year ago. Rooms perfect, pool perfect, location great within walking distance of all downtown attractions. It makes the regular 5 star hotels look like ikea: they all look and feel the same, this one is different.

The Hotel 1898 really is excellent. Extremely clean, turn down service every evening, and comfortable room. We had a superior room for 4nights and were more than pleased with the location and hotel generally. The spa facilities are brilliant with a relaxing pool and hydrotherapy. Very relaxing after the hustle and bustle of the city. The cleaning and bar staff...

This hotel is stylish with good looking communal areas. We stayed in one of the cheaper rooms which was small and noisy - you could hear people in the corridor during the night. While the location of the hotel is central and therefore a pretty decent base for exploring the city, La Rambla is a bit of a scuzzy part...

Excellent location, service, rooms, atmosphere. Right on la rambla Street in the center of Barcelona. Beautiful building. Excellent amenities such as pool, bar, bathroom supplies (ethro brand, shaving kit, mouth hygiene kit, etc). Rooms are amazing, beds comfortable, quality and detail throughout room design. The only negative would be the 14 euro drinks. I WILL definitely stay here again.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable with all the nice amenities. The location is perfect for walking the city and catching buses. A Starbucks right next door is great for early morning coffee... The only negative we had was a King bed that was actually two smaller beds pushed together... Would have preferred one large bed with no crack...

I have stayed at this Hotel many times it never fails to wow,! Located in the heart of the city. The roof top pool area has views over the city, and a great place to chill . The food served from the bar area there is well priced considering the fabulous surroundings. The rooms are spotless and modern in design...

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
