I had an ambiguous experience with Hostal Besaya. first of all, although most of the staff members are not fluent with English, they are super nice, very warm and welcoming and give you the feeling that you're at home. however, I was very disappointed to find out that the room (818) had a strong smell of sewer and the staff...

The place was very tidy, clean and quiet. The staff and the place in general was welcoming. They were all really nice. The facilities were sufficient. The location is great, right on The Grand Via on a 8th floor so no noise bothered us.

I wished I had stayed longer than the 2 nights planned. Upon arrival, I was given an upgrade to a double room at 805, instead of the single room I booked, as they no longer have single rooms as I was told. In any case, I was very happy with the room whether or not it was an upgrade because...

We stayed here as the first stop on our 2 week trip through Europe. We are in our late 20s from New Orleans and were trying to travel on a budget. Most budget hotels looked pretty strange, but we were very happy when we found this one. It's on the 8th floor of the building so a bit hard to...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
