This was my third stay at Benamar, the second one with my brother. He and I love to travel and our wives often stay behind--as in this case. The GOOD: Very clean room and bathroom, nicely tiled and painted; very well located for walking or taking the subway; FANTASTIC value. The BAD: No elevator...but owner José will come down and...

Stayed with two friends in June. Well-priced, clean and the owner was very friendly and catered to our needs. Down a slightly quieter street between Chueca and Malasaña, this hostel is ideally located if you like those two areas. It's near Tribunal metro which means travel to the airport is easy and it's not too far to walk to other...

Our introduction to Hostal Benmar, about a 3 minute walk from the Tribunal metro station along Calle de San Mateo, past a dirt lot ringed by wooden benches in need of repair, past a couple of open but uninviting tapas bars, to an unmarked dark-green door with a large brass knob in its center, below a small, and difficult to...

Stayed here 2 nights with my sister on a city break, a bit difficult to work out the right door at first (a sign would help at bottom of stairs). Good clean room, small but had all we needed and comfortable beds. Owner was really friendly and helpful recommended a few local restaurants which were great. Would definitely recommend this...

We had a lovely stay of 3 nights here. It is in the middle of the street, just a few meters from the metro station (Tribunal). Our host, Jose, was very accommodating and was always there when we needed him. The room was clean although the bathroom was small. Please note that there is a 3 story climb up some...

Well, I'm usually not too picky about the places I stay in but I still enjoy a little comfort after a long day of walking. I didn't even get that in this place. When the taxi my fiancée and I took from the airport stopped in front of the hostal, I was so convinced it was a mistake that I...

We stayed here 2 nights and have another booking for 4 nights coming. We really liked this hostal due to the price and to the qualities. We had a big room for three persons, incuding a bathroom and a small minibar. The hostal is in a quiet part of Madrid, near nice restaurants. To Sol it takes around 15 min...

Centrally located, perfect for tourist, shopping, food & night life are just around the corner. Very close to Gran Via-the shopping street in central madrid, the one street you should not miss. The rooms are spacious and very clean. "Jose" the person in-charge is very kind, he even helped us carry our luggages (only downside is no elevator) Comfortable stay...

I stayed there for almost a week and I was very comfortable and happy with every aspect of the hostel. Stay here, the best among low budgets places plus the owner, as almost every review states is very nice and never gives a problem of any kind! .

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
