This small hotel is located in the center of Madrid, on a quiet side street off the Paseo del Prado, meaning excellent connections w/ the main Atocha railway station as well as the Express Airport Bus service. Many of the city's attractions are just walking distance away, such as the Puerta del Sol, Gran Vía and the Prado Museum. For...

After doing a few backpacking trips, I feel pretty much done with hostels. However, I couldn't resist for this trip as most of the hostels in Madrid seem to resemble more of a small hotel or pension - private bathrooms, maid service, amenities. Hostal Oporto was no exception. For the location, you can't beat the price. We stayed here for...

This hotel is in a great location very close to a lot of the museums and within walking distance of many of the sights of Madrid. It is also only a couple of minutes walk from a metro stop if you decide you want to take public transport. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was on the small...

This hotel is exactly what you need if you are travelling with more interest in staying all day strolling around in the city than staying indoors all day. It has an excellent location near las Huertas, puerta del sol, gran via, and of course, the museums. The staff is super friendly and they made us feel comfortable from the beginning...

The place is at a good location, but is a very shabby hostel. Bed mattress is very squeaky. Bath room is very small even for my size (5'7"). Worst of all, we could not sleep at all because of the noise from the next doors. A baby was talking loudly every morning as early as 6:00 AM. Among all of...

It would still be excellent if it had cost twice the price we paid. The location is 5 min walking from Sol. The staff (which consists of a husband and wife) was totally friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable enough; it even had a flat screen and a safe. Perfect for a visit to Madrid on a budget....

Friendly staff, small rooms but big enough. Clean. Good value for money. We seem to be next to parlement. The hotel is on the first and second floor. Did not notice an elevator. Gorgeous staircase when entering the building. I would come back here.

For $60 a night, this can't be beat. Hostal Oporto is really a hotel; all rooms have private bathrooms. Also, maidservice is provided daily, which is unheard of at that price. The location is excellent, right between Prado museum and Puerta del Sol. Additionally, it is a great location if you need to catch the airport express bus during the...

Oporto fulfills its purpose of a hostel. Low cost and no frills. It was a great location and we could walk to just about all the sites in Madrid. It was a bit difficult finding its location when we first arrived on the metro, but thankfully some locals helped us find it. Our room had a tiny bathroom with a...

I was very surprised when I saw what room we had for a bit more than 50 eur, especially in the center and close to the metro. We took the metro pass but didn't use it as the hostal is within walking distance of the main touristic places : Prado, Pl. Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, Thyssen Museum, Museum Reina...

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
