We arrived here at about 9pm. There was a group of 8 ladies in front of us and a couple. We were waiting 30 minutes to check in! When we arrived at the desk, the guy asked us actually to hold on while he showed the previous couple to their room. There was no information as to the hotel, and...

I made a booking to stay for 4 nights at this hostel. Closer to my visit, I found more suitable accommodation and cancelled the accommodation (meeting the cancellation date Eastern Time - not realizing it was meant to be Madrid time - missed it by 2 hours). I called to explain the situation, and the person who answered the phone...

Excellent location, right near the subway station, great staff, clean and comfortable both bedroom and bathroom, no complaints at all. We went as a group of friends on a business trip and the hostal's location was perfect to enjoy simultaneously Madrid's restaurants and nightlife.

Stayed 3 days end of March with two teen kids and enjoyed it. Service was correct, had no problems. Check-in and check-out needs pre-coordination. The room was for 4 with bathroom. It was clean and pleasant, properly equipped. If you get one facing the firewall (without balcony), will be silent, providing good sleep, though preventing from ventilation. Ours should have...

First time visiting Madrid. The hostel was located 2 minutes from Sol in a great location within a short walk of Gran Via too. The quality of the rooms was excellent and the service from the staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend as a reasonably prices option with quick links on foot or by Metro to many of...

We stayed here for 5 nights. This place is newly renovated and located on a side street off Plaza de Sol. It's on a first floor walk up of what seems to be a partial residential building. It's so newly renovated the reception staff walked us to our room as they were putting up the door numbers the day we...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
