The location of the Hostal is perfect. A lot of restaurants, places to have a nice breakfast and a afternoon coffee. And it blocks most of the noise from the street. We could only hear an occasional ambulance, but very little. The problem, though, is the noise within the hostal. We could hear the Tvs from other rooms, people talking,...

Our stay was exceptionally enjoyable. The Santillan is located close to many of the central attractions. In addition it is very secure with three locked doors: entrance, floor entrance, room entrance. The entire Hostal is squeaky clean and the marble tile (found throughout) sparkles. Our linen was replaced every day. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful.

It is located in a very good place in the downtown. You will be close to plaza espana, plaza mayor y puerta del sol. A metro stations is close too. Attention is good, you have a clean room with hot water and a basic tv. Recommended if you are looking for a good location to walk around.

The hostel provided the basic necessities that a 2-3 star hotel would provide. It wasn't luxurious in any way but the customer service, the location and the accomodation were excellent for the low price that I paid.

Friendly staff and clean rooms on a major street. Tons of restaurants and shops right outside and if you walk down the side streets you can find great local places within five minutes. Easy walking distance to La Latina, the palace, cathedral, museums, everything. Metro stations a few minutes in any direction. WiFi worked great.

Overall positive experience in this hostal. There is a tea/coffee machine with a small vending machine in the foyer and you can ask at reception to use a hair dryer. The room directly at the reception can be loud if people are checking in. The hostal is secure having to use 3 keys to make it inside the room. Also...

Stayed here for a wind-down after San Fermin so spent quite a bit of time inside and this place is highly recommended... Staff are helpful and friendly, the lift is tiny but better than stairs, rooms are well equipped and the location is good.. even if your just taking in the sights from the window!! Be careful on Gran Via.....

The hostel is very basic yet very clean and in a very good location, right on gran via with all it's action. Bathroom is small but has shampoo and body soap. The water pressure is affected by your neighbors.. If on the next room somebody is taking a shower you will loose pressure and hot water will change.. Another neighbors'...

This hostel has an excellent location to pretty much everything you can want to do in the center of Madrid. It's either a walking distance or there are about 3 train stations within a short walk away. I had a single room with private shower and it was more a hotel than hostel. The staff were very friendly and I...

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
