We arrived and were given a room that was awful. The room was so small that the luggage rack could not be opened. We were placed in a smoking room after requesting non-smoking. The Air conditioning had been turned off as of October 31 for the season and the temperature was in the 70's in Madrid and the room was... More

The hotel overall was a bit cold in atmosphere- the young reception staff seemed put off by the idea of helping anyone. The room was cold and stark- and although the website claims that one amenitiy that comes with the rooms are balconies- this was untrue. Our room did not have a balcony. One of the reasons we decided to... More

Like many other reviews the main advantage of this hotel was the location. almost all the main attractions are within a 20 min walk. room was clean and modern, cleaned well every day during 4 night stay. "hi tech" area involved 2 PC's with internet. one didn't work, the other had a mouse that worked sporadically. as mentioned before, walls... More

Location is great. The hotel is in the heart of all the shopping action and close to El Corte Ingles (large dept store with supermarket on lower level). We actually stayed here on two occasions in March 2006. BOTH time, they were not able to provide us with the room type we booked. We had booked their "high tech" room... More

Bad: Paper walls (as others posted) you really can hear everything in the halls! Privacy- I don't know anyone who wants a glass door to the bathroom, combined with the mirrors at all angles... More

Rooms are institutional in apperance, with black furniture and black celings. Size of rooms was fine. Hot woter was EXTREMELY hot to the point that it fed back into the cold water supply. We had to call the front desk to find out why we couldn't get cold water. We were told to run the cold water in both the... More

We will never be returning to this hotel again! Although the hotel is centrally located, and the rooms well priced - it was definitely not enough to offset the fact that we couldn't enjoy one nights rest the entire weekend. The walls were so thin, that you could hear everything outside your door! At about 6 in the morning, we... More

Great location but we did have some problems. The room we were given on the 6th floor was like an oven -and the air conditioning was out of order. The walls are paper thin - so bring your earplugs if you're not a heavy sleeper. One of our travel companions had her bag robbed from the lobby when we were... More

We stayed at the Petit Palace Puerto De Sol in August this year (2005) and absolutely loved it. The location is ideal, right in the heart of Madrid. It's just a short walk to shopping areas and Placa Mayor (Main square), which is a perfect place for a summer dinner. This hotel offers FREE internet access, as opposed to 6... More

Great hotel, close to the metro station, shops, restaurants, with a wonderful staff, and a great rate $$ and free internet. Will recomend it to my friends and will stay here on my next visit to Madrid.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
