Excellent Location, very small rooms , staff not helpful and tried to charge us for 2 breakfasts that we didn't have, Also tried to charge us for phonecalls we didn't make!!! We booked a smoking room but when we got there they said there was none available and that was more or less it , I have to say I...

The hotel is on a busy pedestrian shopping street, an easy walk to all the main squares, royal palace, flea market and restaurants. It is clean and modern but hardly palatial. We paid a reasonable price and were very happy with what we had - as we were not expecting the Ritz but on almost every street there is a...

I got a good deal from the hotel website a few days before I checked in. The location was excellent! A few steps (literally) from the Sol Metro stop. Shopping, restaurants right outside. I guess that is good and bad since our room faced one of the shopping streets and at 2am the dump trucks came by and started collecting...

We stayed here while on tour in Spain. I must admit, European hotels aren't the best for me to begin with. It's just different from the US...these aren't the Doubletree Times Square, for instance. But, from a safety aspect, this hotel was great and in the middle of all of the Madrid action in Puerto de Sol. You are on...

Great location, BUT No air conditioner. It was impossible to sleep due to the heat. It was dirty. The beds are too hard. It is a shame.Only one person ( a very nice woman) at the front desk, and apparently in all the hotel.

This hotel was in a great location, but I would not recommend this hotel. It is billed as a 'high-tech' hotel, which I guess refers to the funky bathroom and the plasma TVs in the rooms. However, the room was very uncomfortable. We could not control the temperature and it was very warm and dry in the room. We stayed...

We arrived and were given a room that was awful. The room was so small that the luggage rack could not be opened. We were placed in a smoking room after requesting non-smoking. The Air conditioning had been turned off as of October 31 for the season and the temperature was in the 70's in Madrid and the room was...

The hotel overall was a bit cold in atmosphere- the young reception staff seemed put off by the idea of helping anyone. The room was cold and stark- and although the website claims that one amenitiy that comes with the rooms are balconies- this was untrue. Our room did not have a balcony. One of the reasons we decided to...

Like many other reviews the main advantage of this hotel was the location. almost all the main attractions are within a 20 min walk. room was clean and modern, cleaned well every day during 4 night stay. "hi tech" area involved 2 PC's with internet. one didn't work, the other had a mouse that worked sporadically. as mentioned before, walls...

Location is great. The hotel is in the heart of all the shopping action and close to El Corte Ingles (large dept store with supermarket on lower level). We actually stayed here on two occasions in March 2006. BOTH time, they were not able to provide us with the room type we booked. We had booked their "high tech" room...

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
