I booked this on the basis of previous trip advisor postings. I am so glad we stayed here! It is important to say at the outset this is not a hotel - there is no bar, dining area or services such as mini bar and laundry. There is a concierge service on call 24 hours... Unfortunately I had to contact them at...

I have visited Madrid several times, and Hostal Oriente is definitely the best place I have stayed. Location is absolutely perfect - 50 metres from the Opera metro stop, close to the royal palace and only 5 minutes walk to Puerto Del Sol. It is slightly quieter and even more relaxed than Plaza Mayor, which is again only a 5...

I have just returned after staying at Hostal Oriente for three days with three female friends, I absolutely cannot fault it. The location was brilliant, very central and near to a metro station and opposite another bonus was a lovely restaurant, which was was high quality and great service. When arriving all the reception staff are incredibly friendly and helpful....

I booked this hotel about a week before our visit, based on it's central location, access to Metro, value for money and good reviews. I was a little worried about noise based on previous reviews and requested a quiet room. The hotel completely exceeded my expectations. The room was extremely quiet and even as a light sleeper I didn't hear...

We heartfully recommend this fine Hostal, with it's friendly staff and fine location. Will definitely stay here again. Situated on the Calle de Isabella IV, you really are at the hub of Madrid city life with easy transport links, though you are also in easy walking distance of all the major attractions

I can't stress enough the location of this hostel is perfect as it is so central and easy walking distances to all main attractions in Madrid. The staff are friendly, rooms are clean and I was really got value for money in the heart of the city. I love a little Greek eatery next door perfect for snacks and breakfast. Only...

The room we had is not what you think of when you hear the word "hostal". It was a pretty, sunny room, immaculately clean with an attractive shower. We had a nice view out our window. Saturday night was a little noisy - the Spaniards stay out late! It was right before Christmas so there was a lot going on...

A great location for a hotel, it is very close to the metro, and the stay was quite enjoyable. The entrance is kind of hard to find but that is very minor. Beds were comfy and the staff were friendly!

I stayed in Hostal Oriente for a total of nine nights in December 2016. The location is excellent. The Opera metro station entrance is about 2 minutes away. You can walk to Plaza Mayor in about 6 minutes and to Puerta del Sol in about 9 minutes. In case you have trouble locating the Hostal Oriente, look for McDonald’s once...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
