The worst and most claustrophobic room i have ever been in. This place is absolutely disgusting, tiny claustrophobic. No breathing space and toilet are outside the room. Location is ok but the room is a nightmare.

Stayed with 3 others in 2 rooms both near to reception. On 5th floor although there is a lift. 1st night very noisy at reception late at night and also noise of the buzzer to get in downstairs is so loud it woke us up on numerous occasions. Bought ear plugs for 2nd night. 1 room overlooking main road and...

The Hostal is in a great location and we walked to Plaza Mayor on our arrival at night and marveled at the Christmas lights, decorations, enjoyed calamari rolls etc - it met our needs and the staff was very helpful during our brief stopover in Madrid. We had a quiet room at the back with our own small bathroom. It...

Very good budget priced Hostel, very clean, fresh bedding & towels every day, BUT we did not realise there is NO lift, reception is on the first floor then you need to climb another floor or two to reach most of the rooms. We made the mistake of booking the Suite, the only one but it has virtually NO windows,...

I stayed here as a single traveller while I was sightseeing in Madrid. I opted for the cheapest room which has a single bed and sink and private bathroom 1m outside room. The room is very small (I barely had room for my large suitcase!) but I didn't mind as I was going to be out sightseeing all day so...

The location is EXCELLENT! The employees are very nice and gave me tips and suggestions for entertainment and dining. I will be staying at this hostal again!

This great hostal has an excellent location, 2 min. from the metro station and very central! It is very clean and comfortable. Most importantly, the staff is super nice and super helpful! We didn't get our suitcase on the night we flew in and, despite the language barrier, the staff was very sympathetic, helping us communicate with the airline and giving...

Stayed for 3 nights recently. Rooms are on the 5th floor and upwards. Can get noisey if you have a room facing gran via as no double glazing. Room had two single beds and quite small with a tiny bathroom. Very well located for the metro, most of the sights and lots of restaurants. Staff friendly and speak good english....

Located right in gran via, close to everything. Less than 1 block away from Plaza de España (you can get the metro there to the airport 10 to nuevos ministerios, get off and go to the 8 to the airport. Takes about 35-40 minutes). Also close to plaza del sol. Walking distance to everything. Good restaurants around the hostal as...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
